Purpose
The offsite Simulation Specialist plans, coordinates, and delivers simulation-based learning at offsite locations, including partner campuses, hospitals, EMS agencies, and high schools, serving as the institution’s subject-matter expert for mobile and distributed simulation operations. The position independently manages the mobile simulation unit and associated equipment, making discretionary decisions about logistics, technology configuration, and educational implementation to support diverse programs and partners.
Working Conditions
This 8-hour day, 175-day position means you get your summer and winter break off! The position involves frequent travel to offsite simulation sites and community partners. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., but occasional evenings or weekends may be required for events, trainings, or community outreach.
Physical Demands
Must frequently lift and move items up to 25 pounds unassisted; any items exceeding 50 pounds must be moved only with mechanical aid or a second person. Frequent movement of simulation equipment, hospital beds, and technology components required.
- Plan and coordinate offsite simulation events, including needs assessment, scheduling, and logistical arrangements with partner institutions and community agencies.
- Independently manage readiness, safety, and functionality of the mobile simulation unit and portable simulation equipment, establishing and maintaining operating procedures and checklists.
- Collaborate with nursing and EMS faculty to design and implement offsite simulations that align with course objectives and accreditation standards, advising on scenario design, moulage, and technology use.
- Exercise discretion in configuring, operating, and troubleshooting high-fidelity manikins, AV/IT systems, and recording/debriefing technologies in varied mobile and remote environments.
- Develop and maintain inventory systems, documentation, and reporting for offsite simulation activities, including utilization data, quality metrics, and accreditation support.
- Provide training, consultation, and support to faculty, students, and external partners on simulation technologies, safety procedures, and best practices in simulation-based education.
- Participate in planning and implementing technology upgrades and process improvements for offsite simulation operations.
- Associate degree in healthcare, emergency medical services, education, information technology, or a related field preferred or at least two years of experience in simulation, healthcare, EMS, or technical operations; or a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Experience with IT, AV, or simulation equipment setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification preferred, required within 3 years of hire.
- Must be experienced and/or comfortable driving large vehicles- such as RV, semi-truck, school bus, etc. CDL not required
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) – preferred; required within 3 years of hire.
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record required. Class A or B CDL license is preferred but not required.
- Strong technical, mechanical, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Knowledge of healthcare, nursing, and EMS simulation practices.
- Ability to coordinate logistics for multiple offsite locations and stakeholders.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with faculty, students, and community partners.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and problem-solve in dynamic environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, simulation control software, and audiovisual systems.
- Commitment to promoting a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
- Comfortable acting and role playing to support realistic simulation scenarios
