Position: Resident Advisor
Location: Lower Road, Newportville, PA
FT/PT: Full-time/part-time
General description/ Qualifications:
Motivate residents to develop and make use of their own potential for meeting social, health, emotional and economic problems.
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, experience working in mental health, FBI clearance, Criminal History Clearance, Child Abuse clearance and a valid driver’s license. It also requires good interpersonal skills, reliable transportation, being able to read and write English, and a willingness to learn and implement emergency procedures and crisis prevention/ intervention procedures.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Will report directly to the Director of Residential Services
- Responsible for on-site evening or daytime coverage and limited case management duties under supervision of Director of Residential Services.
- Assist and monitor medical issues as needed and appropriate
- Familiarize self with resident’s history, hospital course, and treatment plan.
- Obtain information from residents, members of the family and others; evaluate and relate the information to the present behavior and emotional problems of the resident.
- Select constructive activities or situations suited to the resident’s specific physical and emotional needs, and guides resident in activities, individually or in groups, making adjustments in the program in accordance with resident’s progress.
- Supervise and assist residents to develop skills in the areas of personal health care, nutrition, hygiene, and social skill development.
- Provide individual guidance and assistance for residents when appropriate.
- Report matters of resident’s welfare to Clinical Coordinator and suggests other activities when indicated.
- Maintain administrative and clinical records as instructed.
- Make recommendations for supplies and equipment needed for activities conducted or supervised to the Office Manager.
- Knowledge of the more common illnesses and their social, economic, and psychological implications.
- Some knowledge of the theory and practices of mental hygiene and their application to situations of everyday living.
- Some knowledge of applicable health and safety measures.
- Ability to plan, organize, lead, vary and adapt activities and specific treatment programs in accordance with indicated needs of individual residents.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those receiving residential services as well as professional colleagues.
- Ability to observe patient behavior and report on it with discernment.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
- Performs related duties and training as required/assigned.
- Adhere to corporate compliance policy of the agency.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to shop for food/materials with residents one on one.
- Ability to evacuate all three floors of the ICRR building within 2 minutes during emergency and drill situations.
- Ability to assist residents with carrying groceries, cleaning apartments, moving furniture, etc.
- Physical ability to perform CPR and First Aid.
- Ability to accompany residents on community outings.
- Ability to bend and lift to 10 lbs. on a regular basis.
