FM Talent is seeking a Level I Compliance Specialist to support compliance and monitoring activities for federal financial assistance programs administered by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). This role is well-suited for an early-career professional seeking hands-on experience in federal grants compliance, project coordination, and financial assistance regulations.The Compliance Specialist will support program staff and senior compliance personnel by assisting with compliance reviews, monitoring activities, documentation, and analysis, leveraging AI-augmented tools to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and risk identification.Key ResponsibilitiesCompliance Support & Monitoring
- Assist with compliance reviews of grant files, financial reports, and supporting documentation.Support pre-award and post-award compliance activities to ensure adherence to federal regulations and ARC policies.Review grant-related materials for consistency with federal financial assistance cost principles and Uniform Guidance requirements.
- Apply foundational knowledge of federal grants management practices, including allowability, allocability, and reasonableness of costs.Assist in tracking compliance requirements and deadlines across multiple grant-funded projects.Help prepare materials for audits, monitoring visits, and internal compliance reviews.
- Support compliance-related projects by tracking tasks, milestones, and deliverables.Maintain organized records and documentation within compliance or grants management systems.Coordinate with internal staff to gather documents and resolve basic compliance questions.
- Use AI-assisted tools to help identify trends, anomalies, or potential compliance risks in financial and programmatic data.Support data validation and quality checks while applying human judgment and established compliance standards.Document findings and escalate issues to senior staff as appropriate.
- Communicate professionally with internal stakeholders and contribute to a customer service–oriented compliance function.Draft routine correspondence, summaries, and documentation using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in public administration, business, finance, accounting, or related field.Foundational knowledge or coursework related to federal grants management or compliance.Familiarity with or ability to learn federal financial assistance cost principles (e.g., Uniform Guidance).Basic project management or task coordination experience.Interest in or exposure to AI‑augmented data or compliance analysis tools.Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and database or grants management systems.
- Internship or early professional experience supporting compliance, grants, or audit activities.Exposure to federal, state, or nonprofit grant-funded programs.
Compensation Range: The salary range provided is determined by market value, internal equity, and the candidate's experience and qualifications. Offers will be extended within this range, though not all candidates will receive an offer at the upper limit.
