About This Position

WAF Coordinator (Work Authorization Form)

Job SummaryWAF Coordinator with Logistics, Marine Electrical, or CP experience will be prioritized and pay rate will be determined based off experience. The WAF Coordinator is responsible for administering and controlling the Work Authorization Form (WAF) process to ensure all maintenance, repair, and construction activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with shipyard policies, NAVSEA requirements, OSHA regulations, and contractual obligations. This position plays a critical role in coordinating work activities and preventing safety conflicts across multiple trades and departments.

Key Responsibilities Review, issue, track, and close Work Authorization Forms for shipboard and facility work.

Verify that all required permits, certifications, tag-outs, and safety controls are approved prior to authorizing work.

Ensure compliance with shipyard safety procedures, NAVSEA Standard Items, OSHA regulations, and customer requirements.

Coordinate daily work activities with production supervisors, safety, quality, and engineering teams.

Identify potential work conflicts, hazards, and restricted areas and ensure proper mitigation measures are in place.

Monitor active work areas to confirm work is performed within the approved WAF scope.

Suspend or revoke WAFs when unsafe conditions, violations, or scope deviations are identified.

Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation of all WAF activity.

Participate in pre-job briefs, safety meetings, and shift turnover meetings.

Support audits, inspections, and investigations related to work authorization and safety compliance.

Provide guidance to trades and supervisors regarding WAF procedures and requirements.

Required Qualifications Knowledge of shipyard operations and work control processes.

Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items and OSHA safety regulations.

Ability to read and interpret work packages, technical instructions, and drawings.

Strong organizational and documentation skills.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to identify hazards and enforce safety requirements.

Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in shipyard production, safety, planning, or quality roles.

Experience working on U.S. Navy vessels.

OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

Experience with hot work, confined space, tag-out, and energy control procedures.

Proficiency with electronic work control or maintenance management systems.

Working Conditions Work performed aboard ships, in dry docks, and industrial environments.

Frequent walking, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.

May require shift work, overtime, and weekend coverage.

Must adhere to PPE and safety requirements at all times.
