About This Position

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS<br><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt;" data-pasted="true"><li>Examine, test computer drives, and troubleshoot mechanical problems using industry standard test procedures and computer diagnostic equipment.</li><li>Repair diesel engines and maintain various types of heavy equipment and heavy duty vehicles. Examine fuel regulators, emission control systems, and timing systems. Correct flaws in in automotive components, electrical, air condition, fuel, valve mechanisms, linkages, oil systems ,and traction units.</li><li>Perform various types of maintenance on heavy-duty diesel engines, tractors, and trailers, also various maintenance on gasoline engines and vehicles under limited supervision. Check batteries, lubricate parts, and change oil to prevent engine failure. Once maintenance is complete, test-drive before returning to fleet for performance.</li><li>Inspect hydraulic systems and brakes, suspensions, transmissions, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components on heavy trucks, equipment. Perform maintenance on other specialized construction equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, and other earthmoving equipment.</li><li>Diagnose, repair and overhaul large, equipment while on the job.</li><li>Diagnose and repair small engines and automotive components.</li><li>Utilize computer related systems and diagnostic tools in the repair process</li><li>Perform tasks requiring heavy physical effort.</li><li>Oral and written communication skills are necessary to read technical manuals and write reports.</li><li>Performs<u>&nbsp;</u>inspections (annual DOT, etc.) and preventive maintenance on all commercial and county owned vehicles and equipment. Maintains commercial vehicle maintenance records as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.</li><li>Prepares repair orders for billing. Complies with purchasing policy.</li><li>Safely operates a variety of specialized heavy and light equipment as needed to facilitate the construction and maintenance of all facets of County roads and bridges.</li><li>Completes driver vehicle inspection reports per Federal Motor Carrier regulations.</li><li>Participates in appropriate training programs to maintain required certifications and increase skill levels.</li></ul>

Must possess valid Colorado State Class A Commercial Driver's License or obtain within six months of hire. Must be able to pass required Department of Transportation physical and pre­-employment drug test with negative result. Subject to random drug/alcohol testing to meet Federal Motor Carrier requirements of the position. Must be able to achieve Newly Hired Experience Minor Record/Certificate within one year of employment. Must have a valid certificate of flagging within one year of employment date and must be able to maintain certification of flagging while employed with Huerfano County. Ability to understand and apply county policies, understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
