Primary Duties
The Environment:
Founded in 1889, the University of New Mexico sits on the traditional homelands of the Pueblo of Sandia. The original peoples of New Mexico - Pueblo, Navajo, and Apache - since time immemorial, have deep connections to the land and have made significant contributions to the broader community statewide. We honor the land itself and those who remain stewards of this land throughout the generations and acknowledge our committed relationship to Indigenous peoples. We gratefully recognize our history.
An R1 Research Institution, a Hispanic-serving institution, and the flagship university in a majority-minority state, UNM enrolls nearly 24,000 students and offers 215 degree and certificate programs, including 94 baccalaureates, 71 masters, and 37 doctoral degrees through 14 Colleges and Schools. UNM's campus occupies nearly 800 acres near old Route 66 in the heart of Albuquerque, a metropolitan area of more than 900,000 people. From the magnificent mesas to the west, past the banks of the historic Rio Grande, to the Sandia Mountains to the east, Albuquerque is a blend of culture, cuisine, styles, stories, people, pursuits, and panoramas.
UNM's University Libraries (UL) is housed within the College of University Libraries & Learning Sciences, along with the academic Organization, Information and Learning Sciences Program and the UNM Press. The UL is a member of the Association of Research Libraries, the Greater Western Library Alliance, the New Mexico Consortium of Academic Libraries, Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials, as well as the Data Curation Network and The Carpentries.
The UL includes the Centennial Science and Engineering Library, the Fine Arts & Design Library, and Zimmerman Library. Zimmerman Library also houses the Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections, the Indigenous Nations Library Program, the Adobe Creative Commons, and is a Regional Federal Depository Library. Our collections include over three million volumes, UNM's digital repository, LoboGit, and several online digital archival collections.
The UL's mission is to support our communities by providing expertise, instruction, services, spaces, and collections that advance scholarship, teaching, and intellectual discovery.
