Job Description

Rhodium Group is seeking an entrepreneurial and talented Senior Consultant (Independent Contractor) to provide research and analytical support to our corporate advisory work alongside a world-class team of economists, policy and geopolitical analysts, researchers, and data engineers.

This is an independent contractor engagement: the selected consultant will perform services as an independent contractor and will not be engaged as an employee.

Location: The preferred location for this engagement is Delhi.

Position Overview
As a Senior Consultant (Independent Contractor) supporting Rhodium’s Corporate Advisory practice, you will deliver research and analytical outputs for corporate clients on one or several of the following topics: India’s economy and economic policies; India-world trade and investment trends; India’s relations with China, the EU and the US; India’s industrial and technology policies; and India’s role as a supply chain diversification hub. Work will be scoped through a written consulting agreement and/or statement of work that defines deliverables, timelines, and payment terms.

Position Responsibilities
  • Lead the production and delivery of short-form client deliverables (e.g., research notes, briefing decks, email alerts) and contribute to longer-form research outputs, in line with agreed scopes and timelines.
  • Design, conduct, and oversee the execution of rigorous economic and policy analysis tailored to corporate audiences on a range of India-related topics.
  • Engage with clients as needed to understand business questions, clarify scope, and refine deliverables.
  • Contribute subject-matter expertise and written analysis that strengthens Rhodium’s corporate advisory deliverables on topics such as:
    • India’s economy and macroeconomic policies,
    • India-global trade and investment trends,
    • China-India policy and economic dynamics,
    • India’s economic and political relations with the US and EU,
    • India’s industrial and technology policy trends,
    • India’s role—actual and potential—as supply chain diversification hub,
    • Other India-related global trends.
Required Skills & Experience
Competitive candidates will have the following qualifications:
  • A master’s degree, or equivalent experience, in international economics, international affairs, political science, law, Asian studies, or other relevant fields.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience (not inclusive of internships) performing research on India to support decision-makers in government, business, or think tanks.
  • Demonstrated understanding of India’s economy and macroeconomic policies, India-world trade and investment trends, geopolitical dynamics, technology and industrial policy, supply chain diversification, and regulatory trends influencing India’s economic engagement with the world.
  • Excellent research and data analysis skills with the ability to lead the production of clear and accurate reports of research results. Ability to synthesize policy developments and/or economic data into succinct and compelling stories.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and concisely through memos, reports, briefings, and other deliverables.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and capacity for self-directed work. The candidate should be able to manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously and deliver client-ready, polished outputs.
  • Professional fluency in English writing and speaking skills.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel for data analysis and visualization. Experience with economic and commercial databases, including CEIC, WIND, and the Bloomberg Terminal. Proficiency in R or Python for data analysis is a plus.
  • Direct experience in sectoral or industry-level research in automotive, pharma, medtech, chemicals, critical minerals, and shipping, or experience with trade modeling, growth accounting, or industrial policy analysis is a plus.
Engagement Model (Independent Contractor)
This role is offered as an independent contractor engagement (consultant/subcontractor), not employment. The successful candidate will operate as an independent business (individual or entity, as applicable) and will be responsible for their own taxes, statutory registrations, and insurance. Rhodium Group will not provide employee benefits (including paid leave, retirement/provident fund contributions, or other employment benefits).

Any engagement is subject to execution of a written independent contractor/consulting agreement, completion of any required conflicts-of-interest checks, and execution of confidentiality and data protection terms (and, where appropriate, an NDA) prior to access to non-public client or company information. Applicants must have current authorization to perform services in India.
