About This Position
WRENCH FOR A SHOP WITH A DIFFERENCE | Casual or Part-Time Mechanic Needed
Tune Cycles is on the hunt for a part-time Bike Mechanic (2–3 days per week, flexible) to join our team at our Marrickville workshop in inner-west Sydney. If you love bikes as much as your espresso, read on.
WHO WE ARE
We're not your typical bike shop. Tune Cycles operates a dual-model service across Sydney, featuring a fully equipped workshop in Marrickville (with reserved parking near the Metro) and mobile mechanics in custom vans that bring the workshop directly to customers' homes and offices. Whether someone's prepping for a race, fixing a flat on their daily commute, or troubleshooting their e-MTB, we're the crew that gets them back on the bike—fast.
We service road bikes, mountain bikes, e-bikes, and cargo bikes across Sydney and beyond, with mechanics who have genuine passion for cycling and industry-leading expertise. Our team doesn't just turn bolts—we're riders who understand the joy of a perfectly dialled drivetrain and the frustration of a creaky bottom bracket at 6am.
THE ROLE
You'll work 2–3 days per week from our Marrickville workshop (with potential to extend to full-time down the track). Your toolkit will include:
Bread-and-butter services: Tune-ups, tube swaps, drivetrain cleaning, brake adjustments, wheel truing.
The technical stuff: Hydraulic disc brake bleeds, suspension servicing, headset overhauls, 1x12 upgrades.
E-bike expertise: Bosch & Shimano Steps systems, firmware updates, motor diagnostics.
The finishes: Bike washing (including ultra-sonic drivetrain cleaning), RideWrap installation, custom wheel building.
You'll work alongside experienced mechanics in a workshop equipped with industry-standard Unior, Park, and Kincrome tools, with a comprehensive stock of Shimano, SRAM, and specialty parts to get customers back on the road ASAP.
WHAT YOU BRING
Experience: You've spun spanners in a workshop before, or you're a home-mechanic wizard ready to level up. No ego required—just passion and a willingness to learn.
Technical skills: Bosch or Shimano training is an advantage (but not a deal-breaker if your fundamentals are strong).
Attention to detail: You diagnose creaks, squeaks, and rattles without making customers feel silly about asking.
The vibe: You show up on time, ready to work. You take pride in your work because our workmanship is guaranteed for 30 days.
Bonus: If you've worked on road, MTB, or e-bikes, you're already speaking our language.
WHAT WE OFFER
Competitive hourly rate based on experience ($32 > $52 AUD/hour depending on skills).
Flexible scheduling: 2–3 days per week works around study, side projects, or other commitments. Potential to extend to full-time for the right fit.
Staff perks: Discounts on parts and bikes, free workshop access for your own rig, and industry-standard tools at your fingertips.
The culture: No corporate overlords. A team that supports each other, and genuinely loves what we do. You'll work with a crew who take "incredible pride in their work" (and actually means it).
Career pathway: Grow with us. Many of our mechanics have transitioned from part-time to full-time roles.
