About This Position

Non-exempt (compensatory and/or overtime eligible); full-time; 40 hours per week; Monday-Friday; 7:30 a.m-4:30 p.m.; full benefits; grant funded


This position plays a vital role in connecting Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) students (grades 6-12) with meaningful career exploration opportunities. The Career Coach program is a partnership between Frederick County Workforce Services, Frederick County Public Schools, and Frederick Community College. This position builds partnerships with local business and industry leaders to support career exploration programming offered to FCPS secondary students through the Career Coach program. This position will also provide administrative support in planning career exploration programs and events. Supervision is received from the Manager of Workforce Programs for Youth and Young Adults.


NOTE: The upper pay range reflects possible wage rates for internal County transfers and promotions, which are calculated per County policy. For external hires, offers are made at the base wage rate.

TOTAL COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

  • Develop and implement strategic outreach plans (for example contact methods, identifying student interests, and identifying and contacting relevant businesses) to engage business and industry partners in student career exploration
  • Cultivate and maintain partnerships with industry leaders to facilitate student engagement in career development activities
  • Support the implementation of career development and career exploration programs offered to FCPS secondary school students
  • Provide administrative support for career development activities; including coordination with post-secondary schools, business tours, job embedded field trips, employment and college fairs, and speakers
  • Coordinate employer participation in job shadowing, internships, and classroom presentations
  • Track and report employer engagement metrics and student participation outcomes
  • Gather required data and documentation (for example number of businesses contacted, the nature of those contacts, and number of student participation)
  • Perform other related duties as required

  • High school graduation or the equivalency

  • Minimum 4 years of work experience with administrative support, customer support, business development, or career development

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Employees in this classification are designated as Non-Essential. An Essential Employee means the employee is considered necessary for the operation of County services. Essential Employees are required to report to work in the event of a weather incident, general emergency, or disasters when County offices are closed. They may be required to work overtime with little or no advance notice and may be required to report to work in emergency situations and/or after hours.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

A successful incumbent operating in this role displays the following:

  • Knowledge of local business community and labor market
  • Ability to administer programs and services, and coordinate with partner organizations
  • Ability to design programs, create partnerships, and develop services
  • Ability to effectively access and utilize computerized systems and equipment (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, database management, publications, clip art, etc.)
  • Ability to present program information and/or outcomes in reports
  • Ability to use email system, data management and other technology applications
  • Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with diverse populations, public officials, program administrators, and co-workers
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills
  • Skilled in organizing events, managing logistics, and coordinating with multiple partners
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable, act as a team player, and provide quality internal and external customer service

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR
  • College degree in Business, Communications, Social Sciences
  • Additional education, training, or certifications related to career and/or workforce development or business development
  • Secondary language skills, including ASL and/or Spanish language skills
  • Work experience in career development or career advising
  • Experience using job coaching principles or instructing others


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • While working in this position, the employee is required to frequently sit, walk, and perform repetitive motions; rarely lift up to 20 pounds and reach.
  • While working in this position, the employee is required to consistently work indoors.
