What You Will Be Doing
As a Nurse in the Kalamazoo County Jail, you will provide direct nursing care to individuals who are incarcerated, including completing nursing assessments, documenting physical health conditions, and administering medications and treatments in accordance with clinical standards and facility protocols.
In this role, you will also serve as the nursing coordinator for the Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program within the jail, supporting continuity of care and collaboration with medical, behavioral health, and correctional staff. You will provide education, consultation, and training to individuals, families, and staff regarding health conditions, treatment plans, and ongoing health management.
What We Require
You'll have an associate’s degree or higher in nursing and an RN license in the State of Michigan. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the mental health field, preferably in a community setting. Experience with adults with developmental disabilities is preferred. Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and human relations skills. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and possess excellent time management skills, the ability to prioritize work, attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Lived experiences with behavioral health issues are desired. Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license and reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations, including, but not limited to, visual and/or audiological appliances and devices to increase mobility.
Physical Efforts – Job demands include prolonged sitting and standing. Requires light lifting up to 25 pounds, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or bending. Requires coordination of hands and/or eye/hand/foot and ability to hear and communicate verbally.
Working Conditions – In office environment with noise from computers, copy machine, and telephones. Use of computer for periods in excess of 30 minutes at a time. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and parasites. May encounter community environments that include homes, schools, courts, and other community settings that may or may not be barrier-free. Travel throughout the Kalamazoo area may be required.
