About This Position
JOB SUMMARY:
The Direct Service Professional (DSP) helps people of all abilities feel safe, happy, and supported. At Hand in Hand, we have a special program called People with Purpose that gives adults a place to spend time with friends, learn new skills, and become more independent. The DSP works with participants, helping them with fun activities and supporting them as they reach their goals.
Main Duties
Lead Fun and Engaging Programs:
- Help plan and lead activities that help people become more independent.
- Make sure everything follows the rules and keeps participants safe.
- Support people in making their own choices about what they want to do.
Work with Families and Team:
- Build good relationships with participants, their families, and other staff.
- Talk to parents or guardians to keep them updated and offer support.
- Attend meetings to discuss goals and progress.
Keep People Safe:
- Watch everyone closely to make sure they’re safe at all times.
- Help with personal care like feeding and helping with bathroom needs.
- Follow rules to keep things clean and safe.
Create a Fun, Positive, and Safe Environment:
- Keep the work area neat and inviting.
- Make sure there are enough supplies and that everything works.
- Help with basic cleaning like washing dishes or mopping the floor.
Complete Important Paperwork:
- Fill out reports correctly and on time.
- Record daily activities and update case notes.
Training
- Complete required trainings as assigned
Other:
- Help share information about Hand in Hand’s programs.
- Work together with staff and others to improve our programs and services.
- Be ready for emergencies and participate in drills when needed.
- Follow al agency policies and keep information private.

Requirements:Qualifications
- You must be 18 years or older.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Certified in CPR and first aid (training will be provided if needed).
- Some experience working with people with disabilities is preferred but not required
- Ability to communicate well with others.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- You should be able to lift up to 60 pounds and move around regularly.
- Work involves sitting, standing, walking and other movements.
- The work environment may have some noise and cleaning chemicals.
- You will need to stay alert and be able to think quickly to solve problems.
Skills:
- Be patient, caring, and a good communicator.
- Work well with a team and help create a positive, supportive environment.
- Be ready to learn and grow in your role to help those you support.
License:
- Individual must maintain a valid driver’s license, insurance, and possess reliable transportation.
Technology/Equipment:
- Able to use basic devices like tablets and laptops.
- Able to use basic technology like email and word processing.
