About the role

  • Reports to the Social Development Director and is a salaried, exempt position. Responsible for planning and directing generating positive goodwill of the campus in and around the community. Functions as an advisor to the Student Government and oversees and delivers the Student Leadership curriculum to students. Plans, coordinates, and implements student leadership programs that encourage student collaboration/participation and contribute to positive culture on center. Serves as a positive role model for students by enforcing appropriate behavior and by demonstrating a helpful, responsible, and concerned attitude. Oversees the Mentoring Program to include acting as a liaison between mentors and mentees as well as matching mentors to students. Demonstrates on-going commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring, and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards of: workplace relations and ethics; information management; communications; multicultural awareness; personal growth and development; career and personal planning; interpersonal skills and independent living.

What you'll do

  • Clearly communicates and consistently models appropriate CSS and employability skills including personal responsibility.
  • Responsible for the student government program to include establishment and enforcement of the constitution; criteria of eligibility for executive branch members and dormitory representatives with conditions for dismissal and replacement; organization and conduct of student government elections; weekly student government meeting, following parliamentary procedures, and organization of student government committees. Executes training plans with student government Executive Board members.
  • Arranges and participates in regularly scheduled student government executive branch meetings with the Center Director and Social Development Director.
  • Acts as liaison between student government and staff.
  • Maintains proper documentation for student government and provides student government information to the general student population.
  • Oversees the student welfare fund
  • Assist SGA in the operation/management of student canteen; provide SGA members with necessary training.
  • Responsible for the Student Leadership Program to include establishment and implementation of program guidelines and procedures and maintenance of a current Student Leader list.
  • Conducts student leadership training through Advanced Leadership training.
  • Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership with student population.
  • Prepares and submits monthly activity reports.
  • Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property, adheres to safety practices in all areas of responsibility.
  • Cultivates and maintains a climate on center that is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
  • Attends required staff training sessions.
  • May assist with other tasks as needed.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Associate degree preferred with two years related experience working with youth.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Computer proficiency and strong organizational skills, and ability to facilitate student programs and leadership classes.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • Good understanding of the local community and employer base. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Excellent organizational skills. Must be able to effectively communicate with and relate to trainee base. Position requires an ability to operate office equipment. In addition, an individual must be able to interact with team members and maintain an effective working relationship with all facility staff and departments.

The pay range for this role is:
21 - 22.60 USD per hour(St. Louis JCC Main)
