Lighting Prep Lead

We are a global video and lighting service provider with multiple locations across the UK and the US. We bring an unrivalled service and technical know-how to every project we deliver, supporting exhibitions, concerts, touring, conferences, theatre, TV, film and retail.

We are looking for a Lighting Prep Lead to oversee the operational management, organisation and quality standards of our Lighting Prep department. This is a hands on leadership role for someone with strong technical knowledge of lighting equipment who enjoys mentoring a team, ensuring efficiency, and maintaining the highest Health & Safety standards.

The role will initially involve travel to our Blackburn premises, as our lighting warehouse is relocating. From summer onwards the role will be based in Hertford. Travel costs associated with this transition will be covered by the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily work of the Lighting Prep team, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Allocate tasks, review work, and ensure equipment is prepped accurately on time.
  • Pull, collate, clean, test, and troubleshoot all lighting and electronic equipment.
  • Prep, scan, and allocate lighting equipment for jobs.
  • Undertake general maintenance and repair to ensure equipment meets operational and safety standards.
  • Monitor consumables and spare parts, ensuring the department remains fully stocked.
  • Maintain accurate paperwork, timesheets, and order records.
  • Support warehouse operations, including assisting with loading/unloading when needed.
  • Promote a culture of quality, safety, and sustainability across the department.
  • Communicate professionally with colleagues, clients and other departments.

About you

  • Minimum 3-5 years working with professional entertainment or theatrical lighting equipment, including maintenance, trouble shooting and prep work.
  • Strong trouble shooting, repair, and electronics skills.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and visual acuity for detailed inspection and testing.
  • At least 1-2 years supervising or coordinating a small technical team
  • Experience mentoring junior technicians or guiding a team on standards and workflows.
  • Comfortable using computers systems and asset management software.
  • Clear written and spoken English for communicating and record keeping.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multi task in a fast paced environment.
  • Positive, team orientated attitude with excellent customer service skills.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 25kg and standing for long periods in an active warehouse.
  • Formal training in electrical, electronics or any manufacturer specific lighting training (eg. moving lights) is preferable.
  • Willing and able to work evenings and weekends when required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Blackburn initially prior to relocation of the warehouse to Hertford.

This is excellent opportunity for a technically skilled professional to lead a team and ensure that lighting equipment is always maintained, compliant and ready to deliver outstanding results. Candidates with the right experience, leadership skills, and commitment to operational excellence will thrive in this role.

If you think this could be your next challenge, we’d like to hear from you.
