Job Description

Accounting Manager

About Machina Labs:

Engineering moves at software speed. Manufacturing doesn't. Yet.

Machina Labs is changing that. We build intelligent, software-defined factories that produce complex metal structures directly from digital design. By integrating advanced metal forming, robotics, and automated production inside a flexible factory architecture, we enable customers to move from prototype to production in weeks, not years.

Backed by Lockheed Martin, Toyota, and NVIDIA, we're building the manufacturing infrastructure that defense, aerospace, and advanced mobility programs will run on.

If you want to work on hard problems that matter and see them fly, drive, and defend, this is the place.

Job Description:

Machina Labs is seeking an Accounting Manager to help build and scale the accounting infrastructure that supports our next-generation robotic manufacturing platform.

In this role, you will operate at the intersection of accounting and operations, developing the processes and financial infrastructure that enable accurate, timely, and scalable financial operations. You will work closely with Finance, HR, and cross-functional teams while overseeing our external accounting partner, progressively bringing key processes in-house as the company grows.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building from the ground up - combining strong accounting fundamentals with a systems and operational mindset - while contributing to the development of a modern, scalable finance function in a high-growth, engineering-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the monthly close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial data, and drive close execution end-to-end.
  • Own and optimize the relationship with external accounting providers, progressively transitioning key activities in-house.
  • Manage the preparation and review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and maintenance of the Company’s chart of accounts.
  • Ensure integrity and consistency of financial data across systems, supporting reliable reporting and decision-making.
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and finance to support accurate billing, cost tracking, and financial operations.
  • Design and implement scalable processes for expense management, payroll, and financial controls, reducing manual work through systems and automation.
  • Support the improvement and scaling of the ERP system to enable efficient and reliable financial operations.
  • Build the foundation of an internal accounting function, including processes, documentation, and systems, with a path to developing and leading the future accounting team.
Required Background & Experience:
  • 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Strong foundation in accounting principles (GAAP) and core accounting processes.
  • Hands-on experience with journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Experience participating in or owning the monthly close process.
  • Proven ability to manage and improve accounting processes in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills with a focus on process improvement.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPA designation or active CPA candidacy.
  • Experience in a startup or high-growth environment with a focus on improving accounting processes and workflows.
  • Exposure to cost accounting and project-based accounting.
  • Familiarity with government contracting or government accounting requirements
    • (e.g., FAR, cost accounting standards).
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (NetSuite experience a plus).
  • Systems-oriented mindset with interest in automation and scalability.
  • Experience working with external accounting firms or auditors.
