Preventive Maintenance Technician at Palmetto Corp. of Conway – Lugoff, South Carolina

Job Summary: The Preventative Maintenance (PM Technician) is responsible for performing routine inspections, servicing, and minor repairs on asphalt and heavy construction equipment. This role is essential in supporting paving operations by minimizing downtime, ensuring equipment reliability, and maintaining a safe and efficient job site.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Inspect heavy equipment assigned, including pavers, rollers, milling machines, skid steers, and support trucks
• Grease all equipment daily or as required by manufacturer specifications
• Check and maintain proper fluid levels (engine oil, hydraulic fluid, coolant, fuel, etc.)
• Perform minor repairs and adjustments in the field to keep equipment operational
• Report broken, damaged, or unsafe equipment to the Equipment Manager or Supervisor immediately
• Assist in scheduling and coordinating preventative maintenance services
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs and daily inspection reports
• Support paving crews by ensuring equipment is job-ready at the start of each shift
• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and DOT requirements when applicable
• Keep service trucks, tools, and work areas clean and organized

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous experience in heavy equipment maintenance, preferably in asphalt/paving operations
• Basic mechanical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
• Ability to identify maintenance needs and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL is a plus
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail

Physical Condition:

• Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities such as: heavy lifting and climbing, operating motorized equipment and vehicles, work in confined spaces, work at heights, work around heavy construction equipment.
• Maintain effective audio/visual judgement and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties.
• Must be able to position self around, on, and under vehicles.
• Occasionally move parts weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Enviornment:

• Field-based role on active paving and construction job sites
• Exposure to moving machinery, hot asphalt, and varying weather conditions
• May require early mornings, nights, or weekend work based on paving schedules
