JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for performing all mammography and radiographic procedures independently. Will exercise judgment and initiative to produce high quality images, using proper anatomical positioning, technique and radiation safety practices. Flexible in abilities to perform independently at off-site clinics. Strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product or service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and family experience. Recognizes and demonstrates understanding of patient and family centered care.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Produces images of high diagnostic quality for all mammographic procedures including: ductograms, implants, positions patient accurately critiquing completed images, following exam through to a taken status and maintaining a repeat rate at or below the national standard.
  2. Provides optimal patient care. Identifying and responding to emergency situations.
  3. Receiving, relaying, and documenting verbal, written and electronic orders.
  4. Corroborating a patient’s clinical history with procedure and ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
  5. Verifying informed consent for applicable procedures.
  6. Assuming responsibility for patient needs during procedures.
  7. Preparing patients for procedures.
  8. Applying principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others. Optimizes technical exposure factors in accordance with the principles of ALARA.
  9. Performing venipuncture as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. Starting, maintaining, and/or removing intravenous access as prescribed.
  10. Identifying, preparing, and/or administering medications as prescribed including intravenous and/or oral contrast.
  11. Evaluating images for technical quality and ensuring proper identification
  12. Providing education to patients, Imaging Students, and other health care providers.
  13. Performing ongoing quality assurance activities.
  14. Performing diagnostic radiographic and noninterpretive fluoroscopic procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  15. Assisting the Radiologist or other licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized radiologic procedures.
  16. Performing mammographic procedures
  17. Determining image exposure factors
  18. Imaging pathologic breast specimens
  19. Providing or assisting with physical breast inspections or palpation
  20. Assisting in maintaining medical records, respecting confidentiality and established policy.
  21. Provides scope of care as described by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists

DEPARTMENTAL AND ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Consistently treats patients and co-workers with dignity and respect. Observes patient and employee confidentiality as described by the privacy policies of Memorial Healthcare and complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of and supports hospital's mission, vision and value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, imaging exam protocols, and the code of ethical behavior. Promotes a culture of safety, quality services, and customer satisfaction.
  3. Demonstrates safe and effective use as well as calibrates and performs preventive maintenance of all equipment associated with assigned duties.
  4. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
  5. Identifies problems or issues and brings them to the attention of the appropriate individual. Assumes responsibility and confirms that the problem has been resolved.
  6. Informs Diagnostic Imaging Management of unusual events or variations in normal business or clinical activities and shares ideas for improvement.
  7. Participates in educational and staff meetings. Attends all department meetings and/or reads minutes. Participates as assigned with student/new employee education.
  8. Performs and/or accepts all other duties as assigned.
  9. Performs routine cleaning of work area and associated equipment. Maintains a complete stock of necessary supplies.
  10. Transports and transfers patients in a safe manner and adheres to patient transport policy. Utilizes proper restraints, side rails, and other associated measures when transporting patients.
  11. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities or committees.
  12. Adheres to dress code requirements and standards. Wears identification badge clearly visible at chest level while on duty.
  13. Other duties as assigned

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  1. Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in both general radiography and the advanced discipline of mammography as required by the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) required.
  2. Two-year allied health degree preferred.
  3. Advanced registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in the advanced discipline of bone densitometry preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  1. Ability to perform mammography and bone density imagining procedures associated with area of hire independently and accurately.
  2. Two years of experience in a clinical setting as an ARRT Registered Technologist preferred.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES/MOTOR SKILLS

These physical requirements are not exhaustive and additional job-related physical requirements may be added on an as needed basis. Corrective devices may be used to meet physical requirements.

  1. Sedentary Work: Frequently required to stand, kneel and crouch. On a daily basis may be required to move about, sit, climb stairs and bend. Is frequently required to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. May be required to push/pull/carry items between 20-100 lbs.
  2. Vision: Requires the ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye. Near acuity: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Midrange Acuity: Clarity of vision at distances of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet.
  3. Motor Coordination: While performing the duties of the job, it is required to regularly perform functions that include using hand and finger movement, handle or feel objects, be able to use tools or equipment that requires reaching with hands and arms. Must be able to travel independently throughout the hospital; access patients/families including areas confined by space and/or equipment.
  4. Speaking/Hearing: Ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening.

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL ABILITIES

  1. Proficiency using modern office, computer and telephone equipment as used by Memorial Healthcare.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES

  1. Ability to adapt and maintain focus in fast paced, quickly changing or stressful situations.
  2. Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents including, but not limited to policies, operating instructions, white papers, regulations, rules and laws.

ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Able to see for the purpose of reading information received in formats including but not limited to paper, computer, reports, bulletins, updates, manuals.
  2. Able to hear for work-related purposes.
