Summary/Objective

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help oversee and guide the work of our data engineering and data quality efforts. This role will be responsible for helping create, maintain, and manage internal data systems. The work will include schema design, stored procedure development, and data operations that support both internal applications and external client needs. You will collaborate with developers, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure our data infrastructure supports both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic goals, while also helping the team work effectively within an Agile framework. This includes organizing sprints in Jira, reinforcing Scrum workflows, and contributing to the company’s ongoing efforts to improve agile processes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as a mentor in a small, but growing team responsible for database development, data validation, and data operations.
  • Manage data infrastructure, including performance tuning, backups, and recovery strategies.
  • Define and enforce data quality standards and governance practices.
  • Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to support integration, reporting, and application data needs.
  • Coordinate cross-functional data workflows across systems and products.
  • Support data compliance, integrity, and audit readiness.
  • Help reinforce the team’s Agile practice by organizing assigned work in Jira and reinforcing consistent workflows.

Skills and Specifications

  • SQL Server Administration – Strong experience managing Microsoft SQL Server instances, including performance tuning, indexing, backup and recovery strategies, and security configuration.
  • ETL & Reporting Tools – Proficiency with SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) for building and managing ETL workflows, and SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) for designing and maintaining operational and stakeholder reports.
  • Data Quality and Governance – Experience defining and enforcing data validation rules, monitoring data integrity, and managing consistency across systems.
  • Ownership and Initiative – Demonstrated ability to take full ownership of complex tasks, quickly understand unfamiliar systems, gather context independently, and drive work to completion with minimal oversight.
  • Collaboration and Communication – Strong written and verbal communication skills to translate complex data issues into clear business context and solutions.
  • Agile Workflow Management – Experience organizing and guiding team sprints using Jira or similar systems, with a working knowledge of Scrum ceremonies and sprint planning best practices.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • There are no supervisory responsibilities with this position.

Education and Qualifications

  • GIS Tools – Familiarity with tools such as QGIS or ArcGIS for spatial data integration.
  • Python or C# Scripting – Experience with scripting for data automation or transformation.
  • CI/CD & Git Workflows – Experience with GitLab or similar platforms for managing database deployments or data pipelines.
  • Azure Cloud – Familiarity with Azure-hosted databases, storage accounts, or automation resources.
  • Audit Readiness – Understanding data controls and processes that support SOC 2 and CJIS-aligned compliance.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a preferred hybrid position, with the first two months spent in the office to ensure proper onboarding and team integration. Following this period, the role will transition to a 3/2 work-from-home (WFH) schedule.

Travel
No travel is required with this position.
