ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT
The Environmental Management Department aims to protect, preserve, and enhance the public health, safety, and environment through a balanced program of environmental monitoring and enforcement, innovative leadership, community education, customer service, and emergency response for the citizens of and the visitors to El Dorado County.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION
The Environmental Health Division is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable state laws, regulation, and County ordinances concerning many important public health issues, such as food facilities, public swimming pools/spas, wells, or septic systems. Environmental Health serves to protect the public health and promote the well-being of all El Dorado County residences, workers, and visitors through the management of several programs.

THE OPPORTUNITY
This class supervises a staff of Environmental Health Specialists in the conduct of field inspections and investigations and the enforcement of sanitary regulations. This class is distinguished from the Manager of Environmental Health in that the latter has overall management responsibility for planning, developing and administering all County environmental health programs and activities.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
  • Assists in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards for the Environmental Health division.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of the solid waste program, solid waste diversion efforts, and soil waste abatement program.
  • Participates in the preparation and administration of the division's budget.
  • Plans, organizes, assigns, reviews, evaluates, and directs the work of assigned staff; provides technical and administrative supervision for employees in professional training.
  • Participates in the selection of personnel and conducts orientation and in-service training programs.
  • Confers with and provides professional assistance to County departments on environmental health and related matter

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Human Resources will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following minimum qualifications:

Education & Experience:

Where college degrees and/or college course credits are required, degrees and college units must be obtained from an accredited college or university. Courses from non-accredited institutions will not be evaluated for this requirement.

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in environmental health, sanitation or a related biological field


AND


Two years of experience as an Environmental Health Specialist in a public health agency. Some lead or supervisory experience is desirable.

NOTE: The above qualifications are a typically accepted way of obtaining the required knowledge and skills.


Other Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must possess a valid Certificate of Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist in the state of California.

The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Environmental Health Specialist Supervisor. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time, limited term and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
