About This Position

Position Purpose: CSDC is a small but growing not-for-profit development corporation focused on the design and construction of a new Saint Anthony Hospital on the South Side of Chicago. Our mission is to deliver high-quality, community-centered healthcare infrastructure that serves the needs of an underserved population. As we embark on a complex and transformative development project, we are building a strong internal team that can grow with us and help shape the future of healthcare development in Chicago.

We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive, and mission-driven Finance and Operations Associate to join our team. This is a dynamic, multifaceted role suited for someone who enjoys building processes from the ground up and is eager to contribute across multiple functional areas.

You’ll be responsible for creating and managing internal accounting and bookkeeping processes, ensuring grant compliance, supporting general operations, and assisting with IT and communications. You will also be involved in special projects such as audits, tax filings, and potentially a New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) deal. This position offers significant opportunities for professional growth as the organization expands.

Key Responsibilities

This position supports the overall operations of Chicago Southwest Development Corporation, including the following:

Accounting & Finance

  • Develop and implement a GAAP-aligned accounting and bookkeeping system to reduce reliance on external vendors.
  • Manage and maintain accurate financial records, reconcile accounts, and generate monthly financial reports.
  • Ensure timely completion of tax filings, annual reports, and other compliance-related documentation.
  • Represent the organization in audits and financial reviews.
  • Assist in financial planning and management of large-scale development expenses.

Grant Compliance & Development

  • Manage the performance and compliance of active grants, including preparing and submitting all required monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Track grant timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Support the organization in identifying and applying for new grant opportunities as needed.
  • Submit escrow account reimbursement requests, reimbursing CSDC for costs expended on environmental cleanup work. This is an existing escrow account.

Operations & Administration

  • Identify software, tools, and IT systems needed to support organizational growth and project management.
  • Support in drafting, updating, and organizing internal policies and procedures as the organization grows.
  • Provide administrative support and take on special projects as needed.

Communications & Outreach

  • Assist with general communications, including managing the organization’s website, social media accounts, and digital content updates as requested.
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders and partners as needed.

Special Projects & Site Support

  • Serve as a liaison during audits or complex financial transactions (e.g., NMTC financing).
  • Attend on-site meetings and conduct site visits to the development property as necessary.
  • Take ownership of special assignments that support the strategic goals of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Business, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in finance, operations, grant compliance, and/or administrative support.
  • Familiarity with GAAP accounting principles and nonprofit or grant-related financial reporting.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Microsoft Office Suite, and grant portals is a plus.
  • Interest or experience in community development, construction, healthcare, or public interest work is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Remote work with occasional travel required in the Chicago area to the development site, partner meetings, the hospital, or other CSDC meetings, vendors or business partners to perform operational and financial tasks.

General Job Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field.
