About This Position
Briar Hall LLC (“Briar Hall”) is a full-service single-family office seeking a Portfolio Accountant. The role offers significant opportunities for professional growth including hands-on experience with complex partnership accounting and exposure to advanced financial technologies. This position is based in our office in downtown Chicago. We offer a flexible hybrid work environment, with three days in the office and two days remote typically.
Key responsibilities
- Develop proficiency and then expertise in utilizing various private equity software tools
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of all entity structures and the financial data required to prepare accurate financial statements and investment reports
- Reconcile bank accounts and ensure accuracy across all investment-related transactions including capital call, distributions, valuations and expenses
- Perform daily cash flow projections as the General Partner of the underlying partnerships
- Assist in reviewing private equity and hedge fund activity, ensuring proper documentation and compliance
- Participate in the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close of the private equity partnerships with varying degrees of complexity
- Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules
- Conduct initial review of financial statements
- Assist in compiling reports for the monthly Investment Committee meeting
- Support the preparation of investor reports, capital statements, short-term cash flow projections, settlement statements and private equity performance reports
- Assist with annual tax compliance
- Track and reconcile K-1’s and 1099s
- Reconcile annual contributions and distributions
- Prepare tax true-up schedules and taxable income estimates for underlying deals
- Provide ad-hoc reporting and analytical support to the investment team
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and data integrity
The ideal candidate will bring 2 to 4 years of relevant accounting experience along with a strong attention to detail, adaptability and a collaborative mindset. All Briar Hall employees are always expected to demonstrate unquestioned integrity and discretion.

Education Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required. Tax experience is a plus. CPA certification is strongly recommended.
