General Summary:
The duties of the Pre-Op / PACU nurse are those of a professional caregiver who assists the Registered Nurse in planning and implementing post-anesthesia care of the ambulatory surgery and endoscopy patient, utilizing the nursing process.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Respects and protects the patients’ rights to confidentiality and privacy, disclosing information only for professional purposes which are in the patients’ best interests with full consideration of their legal rights.
- Assists patients and co-workers whenever requested.
- Promotes and supports The Center and SARC organizational philosophy, goals, and objectives with honesty, loyalty, and dependability in all interactions with patients, their families, and fellow staff members.
- Reports and completes appropriate forms for incidents involving patients, visitors, and/or employees.
- Reports any needed repairs or maintenance of equipment or building to the Supervisor. In the absence of a Supervisor, notifies the appropriate repair services and follows up to be certain the problem is resolved.
- Utilizes specialized nursing knowledge, nursing process, and discriminative judgment while giving direct or indirect care.
- Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual practice.
- Possesses knowledge of and the ability to perform duties in accordance with established standards for Pre-Op practices as outlined in the Center's Pre-Op policies.
- Adheres to strict Universal Precautions and Blood Borne Pathogens protocol.
- Provides a safe, efficient, and supportive patient atmosphere.
- Assess the physical and emotional needs of patients and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
- Monitors the activities of non-professional nursing personnel.
- Maintains accurate records of controlled substances.
- Administers and documents drugs ordered by the physician and manages drug-related problems that occur.
- Uses good judgment, is knowledgeable and responsive, and exhibits control in determining appropriate nursing action in emergencies.
- Recognizes deviation from normal post-procedural recovery and collaborates with the Registered Nurse to determine appropriate treatment.
- Completes biannual BLS and ACLS recertification and participates in emergency drills.
- Identifies the need to evaluate and revise nursing policies and procedures as they affect patient care.
- Makes clinical decisions regarding patients’ need for nursing care, collaborates with the Registered Nurse(s), and communicates the same to appropriate personnel.

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma required. Florida licensed Registered Nurse.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for an extended period of time.
- Ability to communicate in English.
- Ability to see within normal parameters.
- Ability to hear within normal range.
- Ability to use hands, arms, and legs within the specifications of the job
Monday- Friday 6am-4pm (or until the last case is discharged)
