The Geospatial Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the coordination, management, and integration of geospatial data, applications, and mapping services in support of the agency’s mission. This role ensures the accuracy, consistency, and security of spatial information while maintaining compliance with agency standards, state and federal requirements, and data governance practices.
Under limited supervision, the Geospatial Coordinator performs advanced-level geospatial services and may supervise geospatial staff. This position serves as a technical lead, supports strategic planning, and facilitates collaboration across bureaus, divisions, and external partners.
What you will do!
Data Management & Compliance
Manage, maintain, and coordinate agency geospatial data, applications, and mapping services.
Ensure compliance with SCDES standards, state and federal requirements, and data governance policies.
Technical Support & Training
Provide technical guidance, training, and support to agency staff on GIS tools and spatial data usage.
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues related to geospatial systems.
Collaboration & Integration
Facilitate collaboration across internal teams and external partners to integrate geospatial resources.
Improve data accessibility and operational efficiency.
Leadership & Oversight
May supervise geospatial staff and serve as backup to the Geospatial Manager.
Organize, assign, and review projects completed by team members.
Define project needs, requirements, and specifications involving spatial data or technology.
Strategic Planning & Innovation
Support geospatial strategic planning efforts.
Advise on the design, development, and implementation of new systems and applications.
Create, adopt, and modify geospatial standards and procedures.
Outreach & Communication
Conduct outreach to internal and external users of spatial data and technology.
Serve as a subject matter expert on spatial technology matters.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or
- Associate degree with relevant work experience, or
- An approved acceptable equivalent.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Experience with server hosting for GIS Enterprise Platforms (e.g., ArcGIS Enterprise)
Background in Emergency Management & Response, including GIS support during incidents
3–5 years of GIS experience in Environmental Services or related fields
Proficiency with AutoCAD and integration with GIS platforms
Experience with remote sensing technologies, including drone data collection and analysis
