Responsibilities

SAM is seeking a Senior Lead Survey Technician to join our Renewables team. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of assigned survey projects, apply your technical expertise to complex property and boundary research, and help deliver accurate, high-quality survey documents.

You will work closely with Project Managers and licensed surveyors while independently leading assigned tasks from initial research through final deliverables. The ideal candidate brings strong Civil 3D skills, experience preparing ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, and a thorough understanding of title documents, easements, and boundary survey principles.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the technical execution of assigned survey projects, managing your work to meet project schedules, scope, and quality expectations.
  • Prepare and review ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, boundary surveys, and related drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Review title commitments and supporting documents to identify survey-related exceptions, easements, rights-of-way, restrictions, and other matters affecting the property.
  • Research and interpret deeds, plats, recorded easements, and other property records; depict applicable items accurately on survey deliverables.
  • Assist licensed surveyors with boundary analysis and resolution by evaluating record information, field evidence, and potential discrepancies.
  • Support the detailed review of legal descriptions and related survey documents, identifying inconsistencies or missing information for further review.
  • Coordinate with field and office staff to communicate project requirements, resolve technical questions, and obtain necessary information.
  • Keep Project Managers informed of progress, outstanding items, potential issues, and changes that may affect project delivery.
  • Perform quality control reviews of assigned work to support accuracy, completeness, and consistency with project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to survey technicians as needed.

Qualifications
  • Significant survey technician experience, including responsibility for complex assignments and deliverables.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys and reviewing associated title commitments and exception documents.
  • Working knowledge of boundary survey principles, deed research, easements, rights-of-way, and legal descriptions.
  • Ability to interpret field data and recorded documents, recognize discrepancies, and support their resolution.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments with limited day-to-day direction.
  • Clear communication skills and a proactive approach to keeping project teams informed.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, complete work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting renewable energy or large-scale development projects.
  • Experience mentoring technicians or leading technical survey production.
  • Familiarity with Trimble Business Center.
  • Relevant surveying education or technical certification.
