Job Description

Position Summary:
The Recreation Assistant assists the General Manager and the Assistant Golf Professional in the management of day-to-day golf operations and is responsible for assisting with the management and supervision of total golf operations in his/her absence.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Supervise, schedule and train golf shop personnel and outside services.
  • Assist with management of outside service staff to ensure the highest quality of customer service is achieved.
  • Assist with the administration of assigned staff via recordkeeping in accordance with City human resource policies.
  • Provide excellent customer service, professional advice, and assistance to all patrons. Focus attention on members and guests needs and remain calm, professional and courteous at all times, even when under pressure.
  • Assist with golfer check-in and fee collection; control and manage play.
  • Assist with all opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure that daily assignments are completed in their respective areas, to meet club standards (i.e. orderly/organized work areas).
  • Assist in the inventory control of hard goods, soft goods, and special orders including: ordering procedures, receiving procedures, inputting into point of sale, pricing procedures, display, and sales.
  • Assist in creating displays for new/incoming merchandise.
  • Develop relationships with members and/or guests by participating in events.
  • Assist in planning and budgeting for the golf operations.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner and maintain a professional image at all times.
  • Assist in social media and weekly email postings.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Must have strong customer service skills.
  • Must have solid supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Must be well organized and detail-oriented.
  • General knowledge of the game of golf.
  • Experience with the use of multiple social media platforms for business marketing.
  • Experience in merchandising and/or inventory controls.
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have strong computer skills – Word, Excel, POS, etc.
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED and three (3) years of experience in recreation or leisure services; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in retail sales and/or marketing preferred.
  • Must possess a valid State of Tennessee Driver’s license.
