Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator for dirt work to join our team. This position is responsible for performing all aspects of earthwork, site preparation, grading, excavation, and backfilling while safely operating a variety of heavy construction equipment. The ideal candidate takes pride in quality work, works well with a crew or unsupervised, and is willing to perform labor tasks when equipment operation is not required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform excavation, grading, leveling, and site preparation.
- Load, move, and stockpile dirt, gravel, and construction materials.
- Excavate trenches while maintaining proper slopes and safety requirements.
- Load trucks efficiently and safely if required.
- Complete daily equipment inspections and report maintenance issues.
- Keep equipment clean and perform routine preventive maintenance.
- Follow all OSHA, company, and TxDOT safety requirements.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Assist other crew members with manual labor as needed.
Equipment Operated
Qualified applicants should have experience operating most or all of the following:
- Excavators
- Dozers
- Motor Graders
- Wheel Loaders
- Skid Steers
- Compact Track Loaders
- Backhoes
- Off-Road Dump Trucks
- Water Trucks
- Mini Excavators
- Tree Mulchers
- Attachments including:
- Hydraulic breakers
- Grapples
- Augers
- Compactors
- Brush cutters
- Buckets of various sizes
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of dirt work or heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
- Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
- Knowledge of grading, excavation, drainage, and site development.
- Ability to perform finish grading with minimal supervision.
- Understand underground utility awareness and safe excavation practices.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
- Valid driver's license required.
- CDL preferred but not required.
- Reliable transportation.
- Strong attendance and punctuality.
Preferred Experience
Experience in one or more of the following:
- Road construction
- Commercial site development
- Utility installation
- Concrete preparation
- Storm drainage
- Highway maintenance

Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Frequently climb on and off heavy equipment.

- Work in heat, cold, rain, and dusty conditions.
- Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends when required.
