About the Role
Bohler’s Bowie office is seeking a Sr. Project Engineer who’s ready to take the next step in technical and professional growth. You’ll lead aspects of site design, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to project delivery across diverse commercial, residential, and industrial projects in the Maryland area. Responsibilities:

Technical Expertise & Production Support:
  • Lead project-level engineering efforts from concept through closeout, including technical review, design production, and quality control.
  • Evaluate and collaborate to the preparation of concept drawings, grading plans, utility layouts, stormwater systems, and erosion & sediment control plans.
  • Review and prepare technical reports, site analyses, and construction detailing to ensure compliance with jurisdictional and firm standards.
  • Assess development constraints and infrastructure needs, providing innovative and constructible solutions.
  • Review construction cost estimates for bonding, client communication, and internal budgeting purposes.
  • Conduct project risk assessments to identify potential issues early and support mitigation planning.

Collaboration & Communication
  • Collaborate with internal design teams, project managers, and others (e.g., Director of Engineering, TRG) to ensure alignment with firm-wide processes and expectations.
  • Support client communication, agency coordination, and consultant engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in client meetings and regulatory discussions to provide technical insight and maintain project momentum.
  • Engage in civic, professional, and industry-related organizations to promote business development and professional growth.
  • Champion the distribution and reinforcement of updates, templates, and training materials developed by centralized teams, ensuring consistent application and high-quality standards across the office Participate in external communication with clients, review agencies, attorneys, and contractors as needed.

Leadership & Staff Development:
  • Lead and mentor other staff, fostering professional growth, continuous improvement, and adaptability. Set clear goals, delegate work effectively, and ensure alignment with business priorities. This position may, but may not always, supervise staff depending on business needs.
  • Provide technical support, mentorship, and feedback to engineering staff across multiple projects.
  • Lead on-the-job training efforts through review sessions, job shadowing, coaching, and documentation of best practices.
  • Work shoulder-to-shoulder with less experienced engineers to foster a learning-focused, collaborative environment.
  • Participate in career discussions and performance feedback in collaboration with supervisors and project managers.
  • Identify training needs within the office and partner with leadership and TRG to implement scalable solutions.

What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related fields (i.e. Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, etc.). Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • 6+ years of residential and/or commercial/industrial site design and jurisdictional permitting experience
  • 6+ years of experience in design with limited supervision and the ability to compile a full set of civil site plan documents
  • 6+ years of experience dealing with regulatory agencies and review professionals, such as responding to public comments, attending hearings, and providing expert testimony.
  • 6+ years of experience in independent grading and drainage design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred
  • Proficiency in CAD programs, such as AutoCAD (Civil 3D is a plus)
  • Technical Skills: Microsoft Project for the purpose of preparing permitting critical path and Gantt charts; AutoCAD (X-Refs, Layers, Raster images, plot files, etc.) to assist in the production of site plan drawings; proficiency in the use of Civil 3D & Local/Regional/State Hydraulics and Hydrology Methodology and software for site engineering
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Self-starter who can work independently and with team members
  • Ability to understand and implement jurisdictional requirements in the design of residential and/or commercial/industrial projects
