Overview
The Buyer/Expeditor is responsible for locating, purchasing & expediting materials in support of a predetermined manufacturing schedule. Must be a problem solver that is willing to put in the time and research to meet deadlines by building strong relationships with suppliers. Ability to select and recommend quality materials consistent with project budgets. Processing requisitions and updating management on the status of orders while also tracking orders to ensure timely delivery,
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Purchasesgoods and services according to the company’s policies and procedures.
- Coordinates with managers tomaintaininventory levels.
- Evaluates vendors based on price, reliability, capability, andprevioustransaction history.
- Works with vendors to negotiate volume and cash transaction discounts, and other available discounts.
- Ensurethatpurchasingdocuments are complete andaccurateand includeappropriateand reasonable terms and conditions.
- Maintains pricing histories and other vendor records
- Maintains records of goods that have been ordered and corresponding shipping dates.
- Confirmshipping dates with vendors.
- Monitors shipping notices to avoid potential problems with deliveries.
- Reports onmajor shipping problems.
- Assigntracers to shipments toidentifydelays once order is in transit.
- Maintainbusiness relationships with suppliers
- Inspectshipments to confirm that products received meet specifications.
- toensure theirassistanceif an unexpected event requires expedited shipping of an order.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven negotiation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Thoroughunderstanding ofpurchasingprocedures and policies.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degreea plus.
- A minimum of5years ofpurchasingexperiencein a manufacturing environmentrequired (electricala plus).
- 5years of expediting experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
