About the role

Project Engineers serve as a primary source of technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle. They assist sales teams in assessing potential solutions, prepare detailed product specifications for customer applications, and help ensure each solution performs according to agreed-upon requirements. The role provides technical expertise through sales presentations, product demonstrations, system integration, installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and customer training.

Project Engineers work collaboratively with Project Management, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Support, external partners, and customer technical teams. They are accountable for the technical quality and timely completion of assigned work, including resolving implementation issues and escalating significant risks, requirement gaps, or design deviations when needed.

What makes a successful Project Engineer

    Applied knowledge in one or more relevant technical areas, such as Windows or Linux operating systems, analog or digital two-way radio, SIP/VoIP telephony, Layer 2/3 TCP/IP networking, dispatch systems, or enterprise call-taking applications.Demonstrated ability to configure, integrate, test, and troubleshoot systems containing multiple interconnected hardware, software, and network components.Ability to analyze technical issues methodically, identify dependencies and downstream impacts, determine root causes, and develop practical solutions within established designs and standards.Ability to interpret customer requirements, system specifications, network diagrams, engineering drawings, bills of materials, test procedures, and other relevant technical or contractual documentation.Ability to produce clear, accurate, and complete technical documentation and maintain configuration, testing, fault, and quality records throughout the implementation lifecycle.Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to different audiences, contribute constructively to customer discussions, and deliver technical training.Ability to organize and complete assigned work with limited day-to-day direction, manage changing priorities, meet commitments, and promptly escalate risks or decisions outside the position's authority.Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s licence, be able to satisfy customer-site security or background-screening requirements, and be willing and able to travel overnight and internationally as required.
Preferred qualifications

    Experience with critical communication systems, including RF fundamentals, land mobile radio, dispatch, telephony, IP network protocols, and call-taking systems for public safety, first responders, or similar applications.Relevant certifications or licenses such as FCC GROL, HAM radio license, ENP, CCNA Routing and Switching, CCNA Service Provider, CCNA Wireless, Network+, Security+, ITIL Foundations v3, or PMP.Knowledge of IP data networking fundamentals.
As a key member of the team, you must be able to

    Review customer requirements, contractual specifications, pre-sale system designs, and site information to confirm the technical requirements and deliverables for assigned implementations.Configure and integrate hardware, software, operating systems, networks, radio, telephony, and related components in accordance with engineering standards and customer requirements.Prepare and maintain accurate project engineering documentation, including system configurations, bills of materials, requirements traceability records, test procedures, installation and commissioning instructions, upgrade procedures, and as-built documentation.Perform system integration, configuration verification, functional testing, and factory or site acceptance activities; document results, record faults, and confirm that assigned deliverables meet defined acceptance criteria.Troubleshoot system-level issues across hardware, software, operating systems, networking, and application layers; identify root causes, implement appropriate resolutions within established parameters, and escalate issues requiring design or product changes.Coordinate assigned technical activities with Project Managers, other Project Engineers, Development Engineering, Manufacturing, Support, suppliers, and customer technical representatives to manage dependencies and support successful delivery.Provide realistic and timely progress updates and reports, identifying technical risks, constraints, scope concerns, and potential impacts to project schedule, quality, or customer acceptance.Support pre-sale and post-sale technical activities by reviewing customer needs, contributing technical information, and helping assess whether established Zetron solutions can meet the requested application.Communicate technical information clearly to customers and internal stakeholders and develop and deliver customer training, system orientation, and technical handover materials for assigned solutions.Perform staging, installation, commissioning, cutover, upgrade, and troubleshooting activities at customer locations.

TRAVEL:

  • Travel is required, about 30% of the time, typically within the Americas.
  • Ability to travel overnight
  • Ability to travel internationally
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: The following requirements represent the minimum education and experience needed to perform this job successfully. An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is preferred. An equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience will be considered.At least two years of recent experience configuring, integrating, deploying or supporting radio, telecommunications, IP networking, or other integrated hardware and software systems.
