Director of Public Relations

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Public Relations based in United States.

This is an exciting opportunity for a communications leader to shape and elevate the public profile of a mission-driven organization making a meaningful social impact. In this role, you will drive strategic media relations, develop compelling storytelling initiatives, and position executive leaders as influential voices across key industries and communities. Working in a highly collaborative and purpose-driven environment, you will help translate organizational impact into powerful narratives that resonate with media, stakeholders, and the public. The position offers significant visibility, cross-functional engagement, and the chance to influence long-term brand perception while supporting important social and sustainability-focused initiatives.

Accountabilities:
  • Develop and execute comprehensive public relations strategies to increase brand awareness, strengthen reputation, and expand media visibility across national, regional, local, digital, and industry channels.
  • Serve as the primary media relations lead, building and maintaining strong relationships with journalists, editors, producers, and other key media stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify and secure media opportunities, including feature stories, interviews, thought leadership articles, opinion pieces, and executive profiles.
  • Lead executive thought leadership initiatives by identifying speaking engagements, award opportunities, bylined content placements, and public appearances.
  • Create messaging frameworks, media briefings, talking points, and communication materials that support consistent and impactful external communications.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging topics, and media landscapes to identify opportunities for timely engagement and increased visibility.
  • Collaborate closely with marketing, business development, and program teams to align communications efforts with organizational priorities and strategic goals.
  • Track, analyze, and report on media performance metrics, campaign outcomes, and overall public relations effectiveness.
  • Contribute to long-term communications planning and organizational strategy discussions to support sustained growth and impact.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of experience in public relations, media relations, corporate communications, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated success securing meaningful media coverage and building long-term relationships with journalists and media outlets.
  • Experience designing and executing executive thought leadership and reputation-building programs.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to transform complex topics into compelling, audience-focused narratives.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills combined with the ability to manage day-to-day execution and deliver measurable results.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Familiarity with media monitoring, media database, and PR management tools such as Cision, Muck Rack, or similar platforms.
  • Experience within nonprofit, social impact, sustainability, philanthropy, or purpose-driven organizations is highly valued.
  • Strong understanding of storytelling, brand positioning, reputation management, and earned media strategies.
  • Passion for mission-driven work and creating positive social impact.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to occasionally support activities outside of a traditional office environment when required.
