This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Brokerage Representative based in Canada.
This role plays a key part in ensuring smooth and compliant customs brokerage operations within a fast-paced international logistics environment. You will be responsible for preparing and processing customs entries, supporting regulatory clearance activities, and ensuring adherence to import/export requirements across multiple jurisdictions. The position requires strong attention to detail and the ability to manage time-sensitive documentation while coordinating with clients, carriers, and international partners. You will act as a critical link between customers and customs authorities, helping resolve discrepancies and ensuring freight moves efficiently across borders. This is a highly operational and client-facing role where accuracy, communication, and compliance are essential. You will also contribute to continuous improvement by supporting reporting, analysis, and process optimization activities within the brokerage function.
- Prepare and process customs entries in compliance with applicable regulations, including HTS classification, customs requirements, and government agency procedures.
- Coordinate with international and domestic carriers, clients, and overseas offices to ensure timely freight clearance and delivery.
- Monitor and follow up on customs documentation, resolving discrepancies and ensuring accuracy in all filings and submissions.
- Support clearance processes by troubleshooting issues and communicating effectively with customers and regulatory stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records by scanning and managing documentation within internal systems under strict timelines.
- Assist in financial and accounting reconciliation related to customs and brokerage transactions.
- Prepare reports, data summaries, and operational analyses using standard office and database tools.
- Maintain strong client relationships and provide consistent communication regarding shipment status and requirements.
This role requires strong knowledge of customs operations and the ability to manage complex, time-sensitive logistics processes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working in a regulated, fast-moving environment with frequent client interaction.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in customs operations, brokerage, logistics, or freight forwarding.
- Strong understanding of customs regulations and classification processes; knowledge of US Customs regulations is an asset.
- Proficiency in French and English (written and spoken) is required due to client interactions across regions.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer systems.
- Customs Specialist (CCS) certification considered an asset.
- Experience with tariff classification and/or Free Trade Agreement (FTA) determination is preferred.
- Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to multitask and manage high volumes of time-sensitive work.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with clients and stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience is considered an asset.
