Job Description
Microvast is seeking a Business Development Manager - Data Center Energy Storage to lead business development activities for Microvast's advanced battery energy storage solutions targeting data centers, AI computing facilities, cloud infrastructure, colocation operators, and mission-critical power applications.
This role will be responsible for developing customer relationships, identifying commercial opportunities, building strategic partnerships, and promoting Microvast's next-generation battery systems for data center backup power, UPS support, peak shaving, grid support, and energy resilience applications.
The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of the data center power infrastructure market, energy storage systems, UPS systems, electrical infrastructure, and mission-critical facility requirements. This person should understand how data center owners, EPCs, electrical contractors, UPS suppliers, switchgear companies, and engineering consultants evaluate new power technologies.
Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development & Customer Acquisition- Develop and manage relationships with data center owners, hyperscalers, colocation companies, AI data center developers, cloud infrastructure companies, and enterprise customers.
- Identify commercial opportunities for Microvast battery systems in data center backup power, short-duration energy storage, UPS integration, grid-interactive data centers, and high-power energy storage applications.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders including facility executives, power infrastructure teams, engineering consultants, procurement teams, EPC firms, and electrical contractors.
- Create and manage a qualified sales pipeline from initial customer contact through technical evaluation, commercial proposal, pilot project, contract negotiation, and long-term supply agreement.
- Support Microvast's market entry strategy for data center energy storage and mission-critical power applications.
- Analyze data center power infrastructure trends, including AI-driven load growth, grid constraints, backup power requirements, sustainability targets, and demand for higher reliability.
- Identify target customers, strategic partners, early-adopter projects, and high-value regions for Microvast's data center energy storage business.
- Track competitor technologies including lithium-ion battery systems, LFP battery systems, traditional UPS batteries, diesel generator alternatives, fuel cells, and hybrid backup power systems.
- Monitor customer requirements related to safety, reliability, fire protection, thermal management, C-rate capability, lifecycle, footprint, serviceability, and total cost of ownership.
- Support development of go-to-market strategies, pricing models, partnership structures, and customer value propositions.
- Develop partnerships with UPS manufacturers, data center infrastructure providers, EPC firms, electrical engineering firms, switchgear companies, system integrators, and renewable energy developers.
- Identify opportunities for joint development, channel partnerships, technology integration, pilot deployments, and preferred supplier relationships.
- Represent Microvast in customer meetings, technical workshops, trade shows, industry conferences, and partner discussions.
- Help establish Microvast as a trusted battery technology partner for mission-critical power infrastructure.
- Work closely with Microvast engineering, product, manufacturing, legal, finance, and service teams to align customer needs with product capability and delivery plans.
- Translate customer requirements into clear internal product and project requirements.
- Support technical and commercial proposal preparation, including system configuration, application assumptions, project economics, warranty terms, and delivery schedules.
- Provide regular updates on market intelligence, customer feedback, opportunity pipeline, competitor activity, and strategic recommendations.
- Assist management in evaluating which customer opportunities should be prioritized based on strategic value, technical fit, timing, and profitability.
- Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, electrical engineering, energy systems, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in business development, sales, strategic partnerships, or key account management in data centers, energy storage, UPS systems, power infrastructure, electrical equipment, or mission-critical facilities.
- Strong understanding of data center power systems, backup power, UPS architecture, battery systems, electrical infrastructure, and customer procurement processes.
- Experience selling or developing business with data center owners, hyperscalers, colocation operators, EPCs, electrical contractors, engineering consultants, or power equipment suppliers.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both executive-level commercial stakeholders and technical engineering teams.
- Experience preparing customer presentations, proposals, commercial models, partnership plans, and market analysis.
- Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Ability to travel frequently for customer meetings, site visits, trade shows, partner meetings, and industry events.
- Experience with lithium-ion battery energy storage systems, LFP batteries, high-power battery systems, UPS batteries, BMS, thermal management, fire safety, and containerized or modular energy storage products.
- Existing relationships with data center developers, hyperscalers, colocation companies, UPS suppliers, EPC firms, electrical contractors, or power infrastructure consultants.
- Understanding of mission-critical power requirements, redundancy design, uptime expectations, commissioning processes, and safety standards.
- Familiarity with standards and certifications relevant to data center and energy storage applications, such as UL, IEC, NFPA, IEEE, NEC, fire code requirements, and battery safety testing.
- Experience with data center sustainability initiatives, diesel generator replacement strategies, grid-interactive data centers, demand response, or behind-the-meter energy storage.
- Technical background in electrical power systems, battery systems, UPS systems, or energy storage integration is strongly preferred.
The ideal candidate is a business development professional with strong access to the data center power infrastructure ecosystem. This person understands how data center customers evaluate reliability, safety, cost, footprint, lifecycle, and integration risk.
The candidate should be able to open doors with data center owners, hyperscalers, colocation operators, EPC firms, UPS suppliers, and electrical infrastructure partners. The candidate must be comfortable selling advanced technology before full market launch, while protecting confidential product information and positioning Microvast's capabilities professionally.
This role requires someone who can combine market access, technical understanding, commercial discipline, and strategic thinking to help Microvast build a new data center energy storage business.
CompensationCompetitive base salary, performance-based bonus, and benefits package. Compensation will be based on experience, industry relationships, technical knowledge, and business development track record.
