Lesley University’s Department of Art & Design is seeking a qualified adjunct faculty member to teach: IAHIS 2200 - History of Photography; Fall Semester 2026; Wednesdays 10:00 am - 12:30 pm; In-person, On-campus.

Course Description:
This course examines the primary issues in the history of photography from the medium's invention in the 1830s through the emergence of Postmodernism in the 1970s, with particular attention to the dynamic interaction between technological innovation and aesthetic development. Through illustrated lectures, critical readings, class presentations, and discussions, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the formative history of photography and its place within broader social, cultural, and theoretical contexts.

A successful candidate will have:

• MA in Art History, Photography, or closely related field (required); PhD or terminal degree (preferred)

• Minimum of two years teaching experience in Art History or Studio Art in a Visual Arts program at the undergraduate or graduate level

• Minimum two years of professional experience in visual arts organizations, such as museums, university galleries, etc.

• Demonstrated commitment to student-centered, inclusive, and equitable teaching practices

• Experience using learning management systems and educational technology to support teaching and learning
