We are seeking an experienced Senior Logistics Specialist for our domestic and international shipping operations. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end movement of raw materials and finished goods, ensuring maximum efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and on-time delivery.
The ideal candidate possesses technical expertise across all transportation modeswith specific experience navigating the complexities of LTL, FTL (Van, flatbed, step deck & over dimensional shipping), LCL, FCL & small parcel.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard high-quality carriers, freight forwarders, and 3PL providers to support manufacturing demands.
- Establish and track carrier Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) (e.g., on-time delivery, billing accuracy, damage rates).
- Experience with RFPs and negotiating competitive freight rates, service level agreements (SLAs), and capacity commitments.
- Optimize and route shipments utilizing Less-than-Truckload (LTL), Full Truckload (FTL), and Less-than-Container Load (LCL) for international ocean/air freight.
- Manage specialized logistics for oversized, or out-of-gauge shipments. Have knowledge of permits, escort, and route surveys.
- Proactively identify potential supply chain disruptions (e.g., port congestion, capacity crunches) and implement contingency plans to maintain production schedules.
- Act as the central point of contact between Manufacturing, Procurement, Sales, and Customer Service to provide real-time tracking updates and resolve transit delays.
- Translate logistics data into actionable, high-level summaries and reports for executive leadership.
- Ensure full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, customs regulations, and international trade laws.
- Audit freight invoices, resolve billing discrepancies, and manage the logistics budget to identify cost-saving opportunities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelors degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years of progressive logistics/transportation experience, specifically within a manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred.
- Proven, hands-on experience managing LTL, FTL, LCL, and oversized shipments.
- Strong background in carrier negotiation, contract management, supervisory skills, and relationship building.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to confidently negotiate with vendors and clearly present logistics strategies to internal executives.
Proficiency with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software (e.g., SAP, Oracle), and advanced Excel
