Job Description
Position Summary
The Driver is responsible for providing safe, courteous, and timely transportation for residents to scheduled medical appointments, community outings, shopping trips, and other approved destinations. The Driver promotes resident dignity, safety, and independence while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local, and company policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safely transport residents to and from scheduled appointments and community outings.
Assist residents entering and exiting the vehicle using safe transfer techniques as appropriate.
Secure wheelchairs, walkers, and mobility devices according to safety requirements.
Ensure residents wear seatbelts and are safely positioned prior to vehicle movement.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
Maintain vehicle cleanliness, fueling, and routine maintenance schedules.
Report vehicle maintenance concerns immediately.
Maintain accurate transportation logs and mileage records.
Follow approved transportation schedules and communicate delays promptly.
Provide exceptional customer service to residents, families, visitors, and healthcare providers.
Assist residents with packages, walkers, wheelchairs, and personal belongings as appropriate.
Maintain resident confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and company policy.
Immediately report accidents, incidents, injuries, vehicle damage, unsafe conditions, or resident concerns.
Follow emergency procedures in the event of accidents, resident illness, or vehicle breakdown.
Participate in emergency preparedness activities as assigned.
Attend required staff meetings and mandatory in-services.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Resident Safety Responsibilities
Ensure residents are transported safely at all times.
Verify resident identity before transport.
Confirm destination and appointment information.
Never leave residents unattended unless authorized and appropriate.
Report any observed change in resident condition to nursing immediately.
Follow all infection prevention and control procedures.
Maintain professional boundaries with residents.
Resident Rights
The Driver shall:
Respect each resident's dignity, privacy, and independence.
Protect resident confidentiality.
Protect resident personal property.
Never enter a resident apartment unless authorized and necessary for resident care or assistance.
Immediately report any suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, or misappropriation of resident property.
Treat all residents with courtesy, respect, and compassion.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
Ability to pass company driving requirements.
CPR certification preferred (or obtain within required timeframe).
Ability to safely operate wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to lift, push, and pull mobility equipment consistent with job requirements.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to assist residents with transfers as needed.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and driving.
Ability to safely secure wheelchairs and mobility devices.
Working Conditions
Indoor and outdoor work.
Exposure to varying weather conditions.
Frequent vehicle operation.
Weekend, evening, and holiday work as scheduled.
