Job Description

Lateral Onboarding Conflicts Staff Attorney

The Lateral Onboarding Conflicts Staff Attorney (CSA) will primarily be responsible for onboarding portable, pre-cleared clients for Lateral Partners and Counsel. Secondarily, the CSA will provide cross-functional support to the Lateral and New Business teams, including conflicts checks, conflicts clearances, and review of new business forms, as needed, to meet departmental workflow demands.

This position will report to the New Business Conflicts Staff Attorney Senior Managers and will work closely with the Lateral Conflicts Staff Attorney Manager, Conflicts Lateral Liaison, Director of Conflicts Operations, New Business and Lateral Conflicts Staff Attorneys, the Office of General Counsel, and Firm partners.

  • Perform analysis and review of new business forms for portable clients and matters of lateral candidates to ensure all conflicts issues have been addressed and engagement terms have been executed.

  • Assist the Conflicts Lateral Liaison with drafting engagement letters and waivers for portable clients.

  • Refresh conflicts searches on portable clients and matters prior to the lateral joining the firm and clear any intervening conflicts with existing Firm partners.

  • Coordinate the outreach and obtain conflicts waivers from existing clients in connection with portable matters at the appropriate stage of the onboarding process.

  • Support the Lateral Conflicts Staff Attorneys by reviewing conflicts searches for non-partner or counsel lateral candidates, and clearing potential conflicts issues as needed.

  • Support the New Business Conflicts Staff Attorneys by reviewing new business forms for current Firm partners as needed.

  • Participate in weekly meetings of the Conflicts Staff Attorneys.

  • Study and stay current with laws and rules pertaining to conflicts of interest with respect to each jurisdiction in which the Firm maintains offices.

  • Maintain records for tracking and timely completion of all conflicts review projects undertaken.

  • Perform various special projects and duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

Required:

  • Juris Doctor

  • Admission to a bar in jurisdiction where Firm has an office

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in Boolean searching and one or more enterprise conflicts search applications (such as Intapp Open, Elite Enterprise, LegalKey, Compliguard Analyze, etc.)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel)

  • Database Research Experience and/or experience with corporate research resources (including CapitalIQ and/or Bureau van Dijk)

The target salary range for this role is:

$155,000 $185,000 if located in Illinois or Washington D.C.

Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate.
