Position Summary
The HIM Technician II is responsible for managing, organizing, and securing patient health information in both electronic and physical formats. This role ensures accuracy, completeness, and compliance of medical records while supporting healthcare providers through timely and secure access to patient data.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and complete patient health records in compliance with regulatory standards
- Perform data entry, verification, and updates of patient information
- Review records for completeness and resolve discrepancies
- Assign diagnosis and procedure codes for billing and reporting purposes
- Ensure confidentiality of all patient data in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Retrieve and provide medical record information to authorized users
- Support release of information processes
- Provide administrative support, including answering phones and coordinating requests
- Collaborate with providers and staff to ensure accurate documentation
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience in health information management, medical records, or healthcare setting preferred
- RHIT, CPC, or similar certification preferred but not required
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and standard office software
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding systems
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
- Ability to work independently and maintain accountability
- Commitment to confidentiality and data security
