The Sports Activities Coordinator assists in the planning, development, and execution of a comprehensive sports program, including leagues, programs, and camps, designed to meet the needs of the Kettering community. Direction is received from the Sports Supervisor through frequent discussions and reports on the progress of planned programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have considerable knowledge of the principles and practices involved in developing, operating, organizing, and promoting a variety of sports programs. Must also have thorough knowledge of current sports techniques, practices, materials, equipment, rules, regulations, and safety precautions.
The successful candidate must have the ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and work cooperatively with City personnel, the public, and organized sports groups.
Graduation from a recognized college or university and/or two to three years of experience supervising youth or adult sports leagues is required. High school or college sports experience is preferred. Experience must clearly demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.

COMPENSATION:
Pay ranges from $20.19 up to $26.79 per hour, with an entry rate contingent upon the applicant’s related skills, knowledge, and abilities. Benefits include prorated sick leave, vacation leave, and holiday pay.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Assists in the planning, development and execution of a comprehensive sports program including leagues, programs and camps designed to meet the needs in the Kettering community. Supervision is exercised over subordinates and contractual employees. Direction is received from the Sports Supervisor through frequent discussions and reports on the progress of planned programs.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)
- Supervises sports programs during games and drop-in times (both youth and adult) including weekends and evenings. In some cases, may be asked to coach or officiate;
- Heavily involved in administration of sports summer camps;
- Develops a list of all needed supplies such as uniforms, awards and sports equipment;
- Evaluates sports programs and activities and makes necessary recommendations;
- Ensures facilities are scheduled, prepared and set up properly for games, practices and camps;
- Handles grievances and/or disciplinary cases involving parents, participants and employees with good judgment and notifies supervisor when needed;
- Maintains established office hours;
- Assists in the training, managing and coordination of seasonal and part-time employees in the absence of the Sports Supervisor;
- Assists in budget development and management of sports activities expenses;
- Responsible for the scheduling of games/practices, and roster creation/divisions for youth or adult league programs;
- Enforces and follows all policies and procedures established by the City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department;
- Regular and predictable on-site attendance required;
- Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- High school diploma required;
- College degree in related field preferred with two+ years of experience in the supervision of youth/adult sports leagues which clearly demonstrate a high level of knowledge, skills and abilities;
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of the development, operation, organization and promotion of sports programs;
- Thorough knowledge of current techniques, practices, materials, equipment, rules, regulations and safety precautions;
- Enthusiastic attitude, creativity, initiative, assertiveness and organization are desired;
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city staff members, volunteers and the general public.
