North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families in crisis by addressing basic needs, promoting long-term stability, and supporting our older adult neighbors. We envision Northern Allegheny County as a sharing community where no one needs to be cold, hungry, or alone.

The Older Adults Service Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and administering North Hills Community Outreach’s (NHCO) Free Rides for Seniors (FRFS) program, part of NHCO’s Older Adult Services, in collaboration with the St. Margaret Foundation. This role ensures efficient day-to-day coordination of services that help older adults maintain independence, safety, and dignity at home. Responsibilities include volunteer coordination, participant assessments, and community outreach in collaboration with the St. Margaret Foundation and other local partners.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Free Rides for Seniors (FRFS) program.
  • Screening callers to assess their appropriateness/eligibility for NHCO’s Services
  • Recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising volunteers to serve as volunteer drivers and/or dispatchers and other opportunities as needed for Free Rides for Senior transportation services.
  • Coordinate volunteer dispatchers and drivers credentialing and compliance by maintaining required documentation, monitoring license and physician form renewals, and completing semiannual driver evaluations.
  • Preparing shuttles for daily services, including obtaining fuel and cleaning, as needed
  • Coordinating the service maintenance for shuttles as needed.
  • Maintaining participant, services, and program data and documentation
  • Driving and dispatching on the shuttles as needed
  • Oversee the collection, counting, reconciliation, and timely delivery of cash and in-kind donations to the Finance Department
  • Support the Older Adults Team by conducting in-home intakes and assessments to enroll new In Service of Seniors participants that fall within the Free Rides for Seniors service area as needed.
  • Coordinating NHCO’s Special Projects for Older Adults, including Thanksgiving meals, Holiday Gifts, and other programs as in-kind and volunteer opportunities present and allow.
  • Collaborate with community organizations and key stakeholders to promote programs, build partnerships, and advance program goals through outreach, volunteer engagement, and resource development.
  • Collecting information to evaluate the quality, quantity, and outcomes of NHCO’s Free Rides for Seniors program and compiling reports as needed.
  • Tracking calls and requests for service in order to identify unmet community needs

Secondary Duties

  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and organizational initiatives as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with professionalism.
  • Knowledge of community resources and transportation coordination preferred.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to motivate and lead volunteers with empathy and clarity.
  • Knowledge of the Route 28 corridor a plus.

Experience/ Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant case management or human services experience required.
  • Experience assisting clients in crisis, completing assessments, and developing service plans preferred.
  • Required to submit Child Abuse Clearance, Criminal Background Check, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, and Mandatory Reporter Training.
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Working Conditions/ Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to:

  1. Work performed primarily in an office setting with occasional community outreach or off-site travel.
  2. Standard office environment with occasional evening or weekend work as needed to meet client needs.
  3. Requires sitting, standing, walking, and occasional bending or reaching and ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  4. Normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate information.
  5. Eye-hand coordination to operate office equipment and computers.
  6. Ability to travel locally for community outreach and client visits as needed.
