Position Summary

Zachry Underground & Utility Services is seeking a Project Engineer who will support the successful execution of underground utility construction projects through project administration, cost control, scheduling, contract compliance, documentation management, and field coordination. This position works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, subcontractors, suppliers, and owners to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project plans and specifications.

The Project Engineer plays a critical role in managing project controls, tracking costs and quantities, coordinating RFIs and submittals, administering change orders, maintaining project documentation, and supporting overall project execution for water, sewer, drainage, and utility infrastructure projects.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain communication with owners, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and project teams
  • Coordinate RFIs, submittals, permits, and project correspondence
  • Track project costs, quantities, production, and budget performance
  • Manage change order documentation and support change negotiations
  • Assist with project scheduling, forecasting, and reporting activities
  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Maintain project records and support project controls processes
  • Support quality control and project closeout activities
  • Comply with all Zachry safety policies and guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
  • 4+ years of engineering experience on underground utility, heavy civil, or infrastructure projects preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
  • Willingness to travel or relocate for project assignments as needed
