Job Description

Medical Director

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Medical Director based in the United States.

Join an innovative clinical-stage biotechnology team advancing precision oncology and the development of next-generation cancer therapies. As Medical Director, you will help shape clinical strategy and guide drug candidates from early clinical development through proof of concept and later-stage milestones. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary experts across clinical operations, regulatory affairs, biostatistics, translational science, and drug discovery to design impactful clinical trials. The role combines scientific rigor, medical leadership, and hands-on clinical data interpretation to accelerate development decisions. You will also contribute to regulatory documentation, patient safety oversight, and the integration of emerging scientific insights into development plans. This is an opportunity for a collaborative oncology professional to influence therapeutic innovation and help bring potentially life-changing treatments to patients.

Accountabilities
  • Collaborate with senior medical leaders, drug discovery teams, translational oncology specialists, clinical operations, investigators, and disease-area experts to develop and execute early clinical development strategies.

  • Design clinical trials that rigorously test translational hypotheses and establish clinical proof of concept as efficiently as possible after a candidate enters human testing.

  • Prepare clinical sections of key regulatory and development documents, including Investigator’s Brochures, IND summaries, and Clinical Trial Applications (CTAs) for studies conducted outside the United States.

  • Support responses to questions and requests from regulatory authorities, Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), and ethics committees in collaboration with senior medical staff.

  • Review, assess, and interpret clinical data, translating findings into clear insights for internal clinical development leadership and external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities.

  • Manage drug safety and pharmacovigilance activities for ongoing clinical trials, supporting patient safety and appropriate safety reporting.

  • Participate in and support clinical site initiation visits, fostering effective collaboration with investigative sites and study teams.

  • Integrate new findings from internal and external clinical trials, translational research, and basic science into clinical development plans and trial activities.

  • Work with research leadership and drug discovery teams to inform and shape the broader drug discovery portfolio.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and effective cross-functional collaboration.

  • Uphold rigorous standards of compliance, scientific integrity, and ethical conduct throughout clinical trial design, execution, data interpretation, and results communication.

Requirements
  • MD, MD/PhD, or another relevant advanced degree.

  • Typically 5 or more years of clinical development experience in academic and/or industry settings, with a background in oncology. Candidates with less experience may also be considered if they demonstrate strong motivation to learn precision oncology development and contribute to cross-functional teams.

  • Experience working with solid tumors; breast oncology experience is preferred.

  • Familiarity with clinical trial design and execution, including protocol development, case report form design, and statistical analysis plans.

  • Experience collaborating with investigative sites, including principal investigators, sub-investigators, study coordinators, and other clinical research personnel.

  • Strong clinical judgment and the ability to assess and interpret complex clinical data to inform development decisions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain scientific and clinical findings clearly to diverse audiences.

  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across medical, scientific, regulatory, and operational teams.

  • Adaptability and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to working in a fast-paced, evolving research environment.

  • Commitment to scientific rigor, patient safety, ethical clinical research, and continuous learning.

  • Ability to work remotely within the United States; the organization also has a presence in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Benefits
  • Estimated annual base salary: $213,000–$304,000, depending on factors such as experience, education, skills, and geographic location.

  • Remote work flexibility: Remote arrangements are available for this position.

  • Meaningful patient impact: The opportunity to contribute to the development of precision oncology therapies with the potential to improve patients’ lives.

  • Scientific and professional growth: Exposure to innovative drug discovery approaches and complex early-stage clinical development programs.

  • Cross-functional collaboration: The opportunity to work with specialists across clinical medicine, translational science, drug discovery, regulatory affairs, and clinical operations.
