This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer – AI EdTech based in the United States.

This is a high-impact Staff Engineering opportunity within a mission-driven, AI-native education technology environment.
You will work closely with executive technical leadership while taking ownership of significant areas of the product and codebase.
The role is highly autonomous, giving you the freedom to identify opportunities, shape technical direction, and take projects from initial concept through production.
You will build and rapidly iterate on AI-powered literacy products designed to support teachers and improve student outcomes.
Working within a small, distributed engineering team, you will have direct influence over architecture, engineering practices, product quality, and delivery speed.

• Own substantial areas of the product and codebase, independently identifying opportunities and determining the work required to move the platform forward.
• Build, prototype, refine, and rapidly ship AI-powered literacy tools and other core product capabilities.
• Take complex, cross-functional features from initial concept and prototyping through architecture, implementation, testing, and production deployment.
• Make thoughtful architectural, scalability, security, and maintainability decisions across the product.
• Develop high-quality full-stack software using TypeScript, React, Next.js, PostgreSQL, and related modern technologies.
• Improve engineering systems, development practices, and technical processes while maintaining a codebase that is reliable, maintainable, and easy to reason about.
• Evaluate and incorporate AI/ML technologies and tooling where they can create meaningful improvements to the product and user experience.
• Work closely with technical leadership to shape product and engineering priorities without relying on highly detailed roadmaps.
• Communicate proactively with a small, remote engineering team to maintain alignment, technical coherence, and effective execution.
• Identify and resolve complex technical challenges while balancing speed of delivery with long-term engineering quality.
• Contribute as a hands-on individual contributor and provide technical leadership through implementation, architectural thinking, and engineering judgment.

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong senior-level engineering experience with demonstrated full-stack development capabilities.
• Proven 0-to-1 product development experience, including taking features or projects from an initial idea through production.
• Experience owning substantial portions of a codebase and independently managing large-scale technical projects without a detailed roadmap.
• Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript, React, Next.js, and PostgreSQL.
• Demonstrated ability to work with high autonomy, make sound technical decisions, and deliver meaningful progress with minimal oversight.
• Strong understanding of modern web application architecture, software engineering practices, and scalable product development.
• Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to producing reliable, maintainable, high-quality software.
• Hands-on engineering mindset with a genuine interest in remaining an individual contributor while providing technical leadership.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a small, distributed team.
• Genuine interest in mission-driven technology and improving literacy and educational outcomes.
• Familiarity with Vercel, serverless architectures, and modern web frameworks is preferred.
• Experience with AI/ML products, platforms, or development tooling is a plus.
• Previous EdTech experience, whether professional or academic, is advantageous.
• Experience with technologies such as Zod, Sanity, or comparable modern development tools is beneficial.
• Must be based in the United States and able to work in a fully remote environment.
• Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

• Base salary of $200,000–$250,000.
