Software Engineer - Platform, Mission Systems

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer - Platform, Mission Systems based in the United States.

Join a mission-focused engineering team building the software and infrastructure that supports the operation of a large satellite constellation. You’ll develop and operate cloud-based services that automate critical spacecraft operations and reduce operational complexity.
The role combines software engineering, infrastructure, distributed systems, and platform reliability in a highly collaborative environment.
You’ll work across teams spanning satellite and ground operations, data pipelines, and product engineering.
Your work will directly support systems used to monitor, control, schedule, and process telemetry from spacecraft.
You’ll have opportunities to evaluate modern technologies, improve engineering standards, and solve complex problems at scale.
This is a fully remote position, with an expectation of three days per week in an office if you live near one.

Accountabilities:
  • Build, maintain, and enhance automation, microservices, and cloud infrastructure that support satellite operations and critical internal services.
  • Design and deploy reliable infrastructure while selecting appropriate technologies to meet operational and business requirements.
  • Manage cloud-based services and associated tooling, ensuring performance, reliability, and service-level expectations are consistently met.
  • Develop and maintain Python-based services and systems using relational databases and distributed infrastructure.
  • Establish and uphold high standards for automated testing, code review, documentation, continuous integration, and continuous deployment.
  • Maintain infrastructure and deployment tooling using technologies such as Ansible, Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker, and GitLab CI or comparable solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with satellite and ground operations, data pipeline, product, and engineering teams to translate operational needs into effective technical solutions.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions, API design, monitoring, observability, and the evolution of microservice-based systems.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to automate satellite operations, reduce operational burden, and improve the reliability and usability of mission-critical systems.
  • Share knowledge and contribute to a team culture built around open communication, collaboration, continuous learning, and initiative.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of relevant professional software engineering or infrastructure experience.
  • Strong experience building and operating services on cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP.
  • Hands-on experience managing infrastructure with Ansible or comparable technologies such as Kubernetes or Terraform.
  • Strong Python programming skills and experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • Solid Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with peer-reviewed software development, automated testing, CI/CD, and development tools such as GitLab CI and Docker.
  • Strong attention to engineering quality, including maintainable code, documentation, testing, and operational reliability.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of complex problems, and make sound technical decisions in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with API design, microservice architectures, or observability platforms such as Datadog or Sentry is a plus.
  • Familiarity with aerospace concepts or satellite operations is an advantage.
  • Candidates must be able to access applicable export-controlled information without requiring additional U.S. export licensing.
Benefits
  • Competitive base salary of $103,800–$129,700 CAD for the Canada-based range, with final compensation determined by experience, skills, and location.
  • Potential eligibility for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives, including bonus and equity.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with company contribution.
  • Generous paid time off, holidays, and company-wide days off.
  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • Wellness program and Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Home office reimbursement.
  • Monthly phone and internet reimbursement.
  • Tuition reimbursement and access to LinkedIn Learning.
  • Equity opportunities.
  • Commuter benefits for employees working near an office.
  • Paid volunteer time off.
  • Fully remote work opportunities across the United States and Canada, with hybrid office expectations for employees located near an office.
  • Inclusive, people-focused culture that values belonging, collaboration, and career development.
