Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager based in United States.
This is a hands-on engineering leadership role focused on building, operating, and modernizing a high-scale production infrastructure platform.
You will lead a small Infrastructure Engineering team while contributing directly to critical technical initiatives.
The role combines people management, platform reliability, cloud modernization, and operational excellence in a fast-moving environment.
You will help complete infrastructure migrations, strengthen reliability and security, and improve the developer experience across engineering.
Working closely with engineering, security, compliance, and technical leadership, you will turn complex infrastructure needs into clear, actionable outcomes.
You will also champion AI-native engineering practices that accelerate delivery and reduce operational toil.
The ideal candidate is a pragmatic player-coach who can balance technical excellence, business priorities, and team capacity without unnecessary complexity.
- Lead a small Infrastructure Engineering team while maintaining an approximately 50/50 balance between people management and hands-on technical contribution.
- Own the reliability, modernization, and ongoing operation of production infrastructure, including Kubernetes-based platforms and cloud environments.
- Drive remaining infrastructure migrations and modernization initiatives from planning through implementation and completion.
- Set team priorities, establish clear ownership, coach engineers, and maintain accountability for delivery and operational outcomes.
- Make pragmatic infrastructure decisions by balancing reliability, security, technical debt, engineering capacity, and business priorities.
- Partner closely with engineering, security, compliance, and other technical stakeholders to deliver infrastructure capabilities aligned with organizational needs.
- Champion AI-native engineering practices, including AI coding assistants and AI-assisted operational workflows, to improve engineering throughput and reduce operational toil.
- Identify and address production risks, operational bottlenecks, and opportunities to improve developer experience and platform efficiency.
- Communicate technical risks, priorities, and recommendations clearly while maintaining effective collaboration across distributed engineering teams.
- Take on additional infrastructure and engineering responsibilities as required to support evolving business priorities.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in infrastructure, platform engineering, SRE, or software engineering, including at least 2 years of experience managing engineers.
- Recent hands-on experience operating production Kubernetes environments in Azure or a comparable public cloud platform.
- Strong practical experience with infrastructure-as-code and modern CI/CD practices, including Terraform, Argo, and GitHub-based deployment workflows.
- Proven experience delivering significant infrastructure modernization, migration, reliability, or operational improvement initiatives through completion.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and lead engineers while continuing to make substantial individual technical contributions.
- Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, platform reliability, deployment automation, security, and operational best practices.
- Excellent judgment in ambiguous and fast-moving environments, with the ability to prioritize business impact and distinguish urgent risks from deferrable improvements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concerns into clear recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Hands-on familiarity with modern AI development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot, with demonstrated ability to use AI to improve engineering productivity.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work effectively in distributed teams, and make pragmatic technical decisions under pressure.
- Experience with Azure, particularly AKS and cloud-native platform services, is preferred.
- Familiarity with tools such as ArgoCD, HashiCorp Vault, Grafana, and PostgreSQL is advantageous.
- Experience collaborating with security and compliance teams on frameworks such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001 is a plus.
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
- Competitive compensation and benefits package designed to recognize employees' expertise and contribution.
- Opportunity to work on technically challenging infrastructure problems involving large-scale consumer experiences, sophisticated logistics, and enterprise-level technology.
- Collaborative environment focused on ownership, experimentation, continuous learning, and practical problem-solving.
- Opportunity to influence infrastructure strategy while remaining deeply involved in hands-on technical execution.
- Exposure to modern cloud, Kubernetes, infrastructure automation, and AI-assisted engineering practices.
- Culture that values strong ideas, low ego, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Opportunities to experiment with new technologies and expand technical and leadership skills.
- Remote working environment, with a strong preference for candidates located in Pacific through Central time zones to support real-time collaboration.
- Equal opportunity workplace with reasonable accommodations available throughout the hiring process.
