The Director of Business Development is responsible for driving census growth, managing referral relationships, and positioning the facility as a preferred provider within the post-acute continuum. This role focuses on developing strategic partnerships with hospitals, physicians, health systems, and managed care organizations while ensuring that admissions, marketing, and community outreach all align with regulatory guidelines and organizational goals.
Referral & Census Development- Increase and maintain census levels by developing strong, ongoing relationships with discharge planners, case managers, social workers, and physicians in hospitals and healthcare networks.
- Manage and grow the referral pipeline through targeted outreach and timely follow-up.
- Analyze referral patterns and conversion rates to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Establish and manage partnerships with hospitals, ACOs, managed care organizations, hospices, home health agencies, and other post-acute providers.
- Negotiate and maintain network participation agreements with payers and preferred provider organizations.
- Represent the facility at care-coordination meetings, community events, and hospital presentations.
- Oversee the admissions to ensure rapid response to referrals and appropriate clinical screening.
- Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and state regulations during the admissions process.
- Support the transition of residents from hospitals to the facility by coordinating communication across clinical teams.
Marketing & Brand Positioning
- Develop and execute a marketing strategy to promote the SNF’s services, specialties, and care capabilities.
- Manage digital and community marketing efforts, including outreach events, physician office visits, and online presence.
- Monitor competitor offerings and local market dynamics.
- Lead and mentor the admissions Director.
- Collaborate with nursing, therapy, social services, and administration to align goals and ensure operational readiness for targeted admissions (e.g., high-acuity, short-term rehab).
- Facilitate feedback loops between referral sources and internal teams to improve service quality and customer satisfaction.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Healthcare Administration, or related field (preferred).
- 2+ years of experience in SNF, post-acute care, or healthcare business development.
- Proven track record of census growth and hospital relationship management.
- Familiarity with Medicare/Medicaid regulations, insurance authorizations, and case management workflows.
- Strong networking and relationship-building ability.
- Knowledge of post-acute care operations, payer sources, and hospital discharge processes.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Analytical mindset with ability to interpret census, referral, and market data.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, metrics-driven environments.
- On-site at the SNF facility, with frequent travel to hospitals, physician offices, and community organizations.
- Often requires flexibility for events, hospital meetings, and on-call admissions support.
