Job Description

Midwest Co-op is currently accepting resumes for the position of Energy Sales Specialist. Under the direction of the Energy Sales and Marketing Manager, the Energy Sales Specialist performs a self-driven and consultative sales and service function to existing and prospective energy customers including, sales of petroleum products, propane, lubricants and DEF. Works with the Customer Service Representatives (CSRs), Service Techs, Compliance Specialists and Branch Staff to achieve maximum sales profitability and growth within the MCS trading area.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & SALES GROWTH

  • Develops and maintains business relationships while executing sales and marketing strategies that drive profitable growth within the assigned territory.
  • Promotes and sells petroleum products, propane, lubricants, DEF, and other value-added products, services, and contract offerings.
  • Identifies and pursues new business opportunities through prospecting, target marketing, cold calling, and professional sales techniques.
  • Prepares proposals, quotations, pricing recommendations, and sales presentations for current and prospective customers.
  • Represents MCS at customer meetings, industry events, and community functions to promote products, services, and business opportunities.
  • Conducts equipment upgrades and switch-outs in collaboration with Service, identifying opportunities to strengthen relationships and increase sales.
  • Maintains knowledge of products, services, market conditions, industry trends, and competitive activities to support business growth.
  • Participates in sales and strategy meetings, contributing market insights, lead generation ideas, and growth opportunities

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

  • Builds and maintains strong customer relationships by providing personalized energy solutions, value-added products, and ongoing recommendations.
  • Educates customers on products and services to help identify the best solutions for their needs.
  • Maintains regular customer contact to ensure satisfaction and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintains accurate records of customer interactions, sales activities, and follow-up actions within Salesforce CRM.
  • Leverages CRM data and Target 30 initiatives to identify growth opportunities, support customer retention, and facilitate cross-divisional sales collaboration.

SALES OPERATIONS, COMPLIANCE & TEAM COLLABORATION

  • Prepares pricing, sales contracts, credit documentation, and work orders to support the successful completion of sales.
  • Ensures orders, invoices, bills of lading, and related documentation are completed accurately and processed in a timely manner.
  • Maintains company standards for loaned equipment, personal presentation, and assigned company assets, including vehicles.
  • Adheres to company policies, safety requirements, ethical standards, and operating procedures.
  • Collaborates with team members across departments to support customer service, business objectives, and operational effectiveness.
  • Upholds the Midwest Co-op Code of Ethics, mission, and values in all customer and business interactions.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Follow all health and safety requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), including using required protective equipment, following safety procedures, and reporting any potential hazards.
  • Follow all company personnel policies, including expectations related to training, performance, and conduct.
  • Participate in required MCS training such as Ministry of Labour courses, Health & Safety Standards, Policies, and AODA accessibility training.
  • Work cooperatively with approved contractors and follow all related safety procedures when contractors are on site.
  • Maintain any required licenses, certifications, or regulatory requirements needed for your role.
  • Perform other assigned duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years of sales experience required and ideally experience in HVAC or related industry.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and sales skills, with the ability to identify customer needs, present solutions, overcome objections, and close sales.
  • Ability to interpret and apply written, verbal, and diagrammatic instructions.
  • Proven ability to develop sales strategies, manage territory activities, and work independently or collaboratively to achieve results.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and other industry-specific software.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to resolve customer and operational issues effectively.
  • Class G driver’s license.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily works in both office and outdoor environments, including customer sites, farms, and MCS facilities in all weather conditions.
  • Frequent travel required, with approximately 80% of time spent on the road and visiting customers; travel may include gravel roads, winter driving, overnight stays, and adverse weather conditions
  • Moderate exposure to dust, fumes, diesel, gasoline, propane, agricultural odours, and other worksite-related conditions.
  • Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and navigating uneven terrain or obstacles during customer and farm visits.
  • Occasional extended hours may be required during seasonal peak periods.
