Summary:

Vighter is recruiting Registered Nurses (RN) with a specialty in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to provide patient care support at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas, serves as the largest and most robust military healthcare organization within the Department of Defense (DOD) providing safe, quality care to our military service members, their families, veterans and civilian emergency patients as the most robust and productive healthcare organization within the Military Health System (MHS). As the sole Level I Trauma Center within the Military Health System, it serves as the premier medical readiness training platform for both the Army and the Air Force.

RNs are responsible to ensure the safety and well-being of all care provided to patients in the facility including proper time out, consent, credentialed staff available, body positioning, documentation of implants or surgical hardware, medication administration, maintaining sterile environments, ensuring necessary supply /equipment availability.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Perform a full range of RN duties in accordance with the scope of clinical privileges granted by the MTF.
  • Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical, family, and social history, advance directives, and current health status.
  • Direct Patient Care & Procedures: Provide comprehensive hands-on care, including hygiene, mobility assistance, wound care, and a wide range of treatments, adhering to established procedures.
  • Medication Management: Administer and management of intravenous infusion therapy as needed.
  • Administer medications via various routes, demonstrating a thorough understanding of drug actions and potential side effects; adhere strictly to protocols and limitations (e.g., restrictions on chemotherapy administration without proper certification).
  • Diagnostic Testing: Perform waived tests, phlebotomy, and other diagnostic procedures to support accurate diagnoses.
  • Individualized Care Planning: Develop, implement, and meticulously document individualized patient care plans, reflecting patient progress and evolving needs.
  • Patient & Family Education: Assess patient/family learning needs, develop targeted education plans, and document their understanding of provided information.
  • Emergency Response: Recognize and effectively respond to life-threatening situations, initiating appropriate emergency measures and life-saving interventions.
  • Supervision & Delegation: Supervise and delegate tasks to LVNs and unlicensed personnel, ensuring adherence to standards of care and patient safety.
  • Effective Communication: Communicate pertinent patient information clearly and concisely to the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Infection Control Compliance: Strictly adhere to infection control protocols to minimize the risk of healthcare-associated infections.
  • Resource Allocation: Effectively manage and distribute resources, especially in emergency situations, ensuring optimal patient care.
  • Professional Development: Actively participate in relevant meetings, conferences, and training programs to maintain competency and enhance professional skills.
  • Interpersonal & Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in interacting with patients, families, and colleagues, effectively managing challenging situations and resolving conflicts.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiently operate, troubleshoot, and maintain specialized patient care equipment, including mechanical ventilators, advanced monitoring devices, infusion pumps, and other relevant technology.
  • Adaptability & Workload Management: Adapt readily to changing patient needs and workload demands, effectively redistributing staff and prioritizing tasks.
  • Documentation Standards: Ensure accurate, comprehensive, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record, reflecting BAMC standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Scope of Practice & Competency: Perform all duties within the RN's defined scope of practice, maintaining competency in all assigned tasks, including necessary certifications (e.g., chemotherapy).
  • Adherence to Standards: Base care planning on comprehensive assessments adhering to recognized professional and institutional standards of practice and scopes of care.
  • A deep sense of purpose and dedication to the United States and our U.S. Military Veterans, their Families, and other patients as assigned.
  • An unshakeable adherence to quality and continuous process improvement.
  • An apolitical, patient-centered focus that drives to enhanced care and patient satisfaction
  • Knowledge of regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act) regarding the confidentiality of patient medical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must have exceptional customer service skills.
  • Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision
  • Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills.

Education:

  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree of Nursing. Graduate from a college or university accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited university is preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: (1) year of full-time experience in the last two (2) years of postgraduation. Prefer experience with Phase I adult recovery.
  • Must maintain a current, active, and unrestricted license from any U.S. State, District of Columbia, U.S. territory or U.S. jurisdiction to provide healthcare within the scope of practice for a specific health care discipline.
  • The contractor’s credentials/qualifications are subject to review. These qualifications will be based on Joint Commission or equivalent standards for training, education and competency.
  • Must have and maintain the following certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) / Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and evidence-based medicine.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:

  • Duty hours for this position can range from 8, 10, or 12 hours per day. Schedules are determined by Departmental Leadership.
  • This position supports 24/7 operations which may require work to be conducted at night, weekends, federal holidays, and training days.
  • Differential pay is not authorized.
  • On-Call hours do not apply.

Travel:

  • As required to satisfy the contractual obligations. Commuting is non-compensatory. All official travel is government funded.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand or sit for more than 8 hours per day.
  • Must be willing to work overtime if necessary.

  • Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.
  • Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation.
  • Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS).
  • Must be a Citizen of the United States or legally authorized to work in the United States of America.
