Your Opportunity + Impact
The Senior Bridge Engineer serves as a licensed technical leader and subject matter expert within the organization, providing technical oversight, project leadership, and mentorship for complex bridge and transportation structure projects. This role is responsible for leading the planning, analysis, design, rehabilitation, and inspection of bridges and related transportation infrastructure while ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and client satisfaction. The Senior Bridge Engineer plays an important role in project delivery, client support, staff development, and advancing the firm's bridge engineering capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical lead on complex bridge and transportation structure projects from planning through final design and construction support, ensuring compliance with project scope, budget, schedule, and client expectations.
- Support and maintain client relationships with NYSDOT, regional transportation agencies, local municipalities, public authorities, and other transportation stakeholders through the successful delivery of bridge projects and responsive technical service.
- Perform and oversee structural analyses, load ratings, feasibility studies, constructability reviews, risk assessments, and cost-benefit evaluations.
- Review and approve bridge calculations, plans, specifications, estimates, special provisions, and technical reports to ensure adherence to applicable codes and standards.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and technical staff through project oversight, design reviews, training, and professional development activities.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, state DOT design manuals, bridge inspection requirements, and transportation-related engineering standards.

- Support bridge inspections, condition assessments, load rating analyses, and development of repair and rehabilitation recommendations.
- Partners with clients to thoroughly understand their requirements, objectives, and constraints, and deliver innovative, value-driven engineering solutions tailored to their needs.
- Conducts feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost-benefit analyses to evaluate project viability, identify challenges, and develop actionable mitigation strategies.
- Oversees the design, development, and testing of engineering systems, components, and processes, ensuring adherence to industry standards, codes, and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinates with architects, designers, contractors, and vendors to seamlessly integrate engineering solutions into comprehensive project plans and execution strategies.
- Conducts rigorous technical reviews and analyses of engineering designs, calculations, and documentation to ensure accuracy, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Stays at the forefront of emerging technologies, trends, and best practices, incorporating relevant advancements into project methodologies to drive innovation and competitiveness.
- Support project pursuits, proposal preparation, scope development, fee estimates, and business development initiatives.
- Participate in industry conferences, professional organizations, technical committees, and client meetings to support the firm's bridge engineering practice.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to bridge engineering practices, quality management procedures, and emerging industry technologies.
Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in position relevant Engineering field from ABET accredited school or related field of study.
- Experience:
- Minimum of ten (10) years’ job-related experience.
- Demonstrated experience serving as a design lead, task lead, or deputy project manager on complex bridge and transportation structure projects.
- Extensive experience with NYSDOT bridge projects, including planning, design, rehabilitation, replacement, and construction support services.
- Experience coordinating projects with transportation agencies such as NYSDOT, local municipalities, transit agencies, and other public-sector clients strongly preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of transportation project development processes, bridge design standards, and state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Comprehensive understanding of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, NYSDOT Bridge Manual, NYSDOT Design Manual, bridge inspection standards, and applicable FHWA requirements.
- Experience preparing bridge plans, specifications, special provisions, engineering reports, construction documents, and cost estimates.
- Licensure/Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in bridge and transportation design software including MicroStation, OpenBridge Designer (OBD), OpenRoads Designer (ORD), LEAP Bridge, OpenBridge Modeler, STAAD.Pro, LARSA 4D, SAP2000, CSI Bridge, or similar structural analysis and bridge design platforms.
- Experience with bridge load rating software and methodologies.
- Knowledge of bridge inspection procedures and National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook).
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while maintaining quality, budget, and schedule performance.
- Demonstrated success coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and mentoring junior engineers.
- Experience supporting client relationships, proposal development, and business development activities for transportation and bridge engineering projects.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including experience presenting technical information to clients, agencies, public stakeholders, and executive leadership.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a project team environment while providing technical leadership and project support.
- Active participation in professional organizations such as ASCE, ACEC, AREMA, or transportation industry committees preferred.
