As the Director of Utility Partnerships, you will be responsible for driving business growth by identifying, developing, and closing strategic partnerships with utility organizations. You will own the full enterprise sales lifecycle, from opportunity creation and relationship development through contract negotiation and successful execution. Your ability to understand utility challenges and position innovative energy solutions will be critical to expanding market adoption and building long-term partnerships.
- Develop, manage, and close complex enterprise partnerships with utility providers, overseeing the complete sales process from initial engagement to signed agreements.
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities through proactive market development and strategic prospecting.
- Identify emerging opportunities within the energy ecosystem and convert early-stage discussions into commercial partnerships.
- Educate utility stakeholders on the value of residential virtual power plants, demand-side management, and flexible energy resources.
- Establish trusted relationships with senior utility executives and leaders across grid planning, demand response, distributed energy resources, regulatory affairs, and innovation teams.
- Navigate complex utility environments involving multiple stakeholders, regulatory considerations, market operators, and implementation partners.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences, events, and working groups to strengthen market presence and uncover new opportunities.
- Collaborate with internal product, regulatory, marketing, and customer success teams to align customer needs with scalable solutions.
- Support the expansion of flexible energy resources as a key solution for grid reliability, electrification, and decarbonization goals.
The ideal candidate is an experienced enterprise sales leader with a strong background in the energy sector and a proven ability to close complex, high-value partnerships. This role requires deep industry knowledge, strong executive communication skills, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-moving environment.
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise sales, strategic partnerships, or business development within the energy industry.
- Demonstrated success closing complex, multi-million-dollar enterprise deals and managing long sales cycles.
- Strong understanding of utilities, distributed energy resources, demand-side management programs, and the energy transition landscape.
- Experience selling grid-related solutions such as demand response, virtual power plants, DER aggregation, grid services, distributed energy platforms, or related technologies.
- Proven ability to create new markets, build sales pipelines, and transform emerging opportunities into commercial agreements.
- Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate technical, operational, and economic concepts to senior decision-makers.
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritize opportunities, and drive initiatives forward with limited supervision.
- Strong relationship-building skills with utilities, energy partners, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel approximately 15% or more for customer meetings, industry events, and partnership development.
- Competitive salary based on experience, with on-target earnings ranging from approximately $250,000 to $315,000+.
