What You’ll Do

As a Direct Support Professional, you will provide hands-on support, guidance, and encouragement to individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. Responsibilities include assisting and teaching skills related to:

  • Daily living activities, including cooking, housekeeping, hygiene, and personal care
  • Health and wellness, including medication support and healthy living routines
  • Community involvement, including shopping, recreation, transportation, and appointments
  • Social development, including communication, coping skills, relationship building, and friendships
  • Budgeting and money management
  • Promoting independence, dignity, personal choice, and self-advocacy
  • Supporting individuals in building confidence, life skills, and autonomy
  • Ensuring the safety, well-being, and supervision of individuals served
  • Communicating effectively with supervisors, coworkers, individuals served, and support team members
  • Completing required documentation accurately and timely
  • Following all program, agency, and regulatory requirements
  • Participating in required orientation, training, and staff meetings
  • Performing other duties as assigned to support individuals and program operations

QualificationsRequired
  • Must be 20 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass:
    • State and federal criminal background checks
    • Drug screening
    • Pre-employment physical
    • PPD screening
  • Willingness to complete all required orientation and training
  • Ability to work respectfully and effectively with individuals with disabilities
  • Ability to support individuals’ personal care, daily routines, and community participation
Preferred
  • Previous experience supporting individuals with intellectual, developmental, or physical disabilities
  • Experience in human services, residential programs, caregiving, direct care, or related fields
Schedule
  • Per Diem
  • Hours are scheduled based on program needs and availability
  • Weekend availability may be required
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts as needed is preferred
Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to:

  • Stand for periods of time
  • Walk, bend, reach, and assist individuals as needed
  • Lift and carry as required to support individuals and program needs
  • Provide physical assistance with daily living activities when needed
  • Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
