Business Technology Account Manager

SUMMARY:
Builds and manages strategic relationships with assigned business functions to ensure technology investments, delivery, and operations align with business strategy, regulatory obligations, and measurable outcomes. Serves as the primary IT point of accountability for demand intake, prioritization, and value realization across run/grow/transform work. Translates business objectives into an outcome based roadmap and coordinates delivery across product teams, enterprise platforms, and service owners using Agile/Lean practices. Bridges business, IT, and operational technology (OT) to support safe, reliable, and resilient operations while advancing digital modernization, grid and asset intelligence, customer experience, and decarbonization goals. Ensures solutions are secure, compliant, and operationally ready in partnership with cybersecurity, architecture, and IT service management. Applies product and platform thinking, data governance, and responsible AI practices to accelerate outcomes while managing risk. Provides financial transparency (budget, forecast, TCO), manages vendor and partner performance, and drives modernization through cloud, data/analytics, automation, and responsible AI. Acts as a trusted advisor to assigned business units, leaders, process owners, and key stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Owns the business IT relationship for assigned functional areas; serves as the primary point of accountability for technology value realization, satisfaction, reliability, resiliency, and regulatory commitments
Leads demand management and intake; shapes requests into a prioritized, outcome based roadmap aligned to enterprise strategy, architecture standards, capacity, and product operating model practices (epics, features, acceptance criteria, value hypotheses)
Partners with business leaders to define OKRs, benefits cases, and value tracking for technology initiatives; communicates progress and realized benefits using data driven dashboards and agreed measurement methods
Drives portfolio governance across run/grow/transform work, ensuring stage gates, risk and issue management, decision transparency, and appropriate cybersecurity, operational risk, data privacy, and responsible AI governance
Coordinates delivery across IT product teams, enterprise platforms, and service owners using Agile/Lean practices; removes blockers, aligns dependencies, and promotes DevSecOps, automation, and continuous delivery aligned to solution risk profiles
Champions consolidation and modern engineering adoption (SaaS/PaaS, automation, API integration) while ensuring reliability and operational readiness; partners with platform engineering and FinOps to optimize cost, performance, and sustainability
Ensures security, privacy, and compliance requirements are incorporated early (secure by design); partners with cybersecurity and risk teams on control requirements, remediation, Zero Trust principles, and applicable energy sector controls (e.g., NERC CIP)
Partners with data and analytics teams to enable trusted data products, reporting, and responsible AI use cases; promotes data governance, quality, stewardship, and fit for purpose GenAI adoption with approved tools and safeguards
Supports IT financial transparency (budgets, forecasts, spend/clearings, TCO) in coordination with IT PPMO and financial analysts; identifies optimization opportunities and cost to value tradeoffs, including cloud/SaaS consumption and license optimization
Coordinates with IT leaders on vendor and partner management, including sourcing input, contract/SLA alignment, performance reviews, license optimization, and third party risk, data protection, and resilience requirements
Leads stakeholder communications and executive level updates; sets expectations, escalates effectively, ensures two way feedback, and translates technical topics into business impact, including support for incident and major event communications
Champions change management and adoption for major releases, including training, communications, readiness, hypercare, and process redesign to maximize business impact for field and frontline users
Monitors service health and customer experience for key applications and services; partners with ITSM to reduce incident/problem trends and drive continuous improvement using observability/SRE practices (SLIs/SLOs), resilience testing, and post incident learning.

COMPETENCIES:
Strong business and technical orientation with working knowledge of financial and economic analysis, regulatory frameworks (including energy/utility compliance), engineering and IT principles, and general business practices; strong digital literacy across cloud, data, integration, and modern software delivery concepts.
Knowledge and experience in strategic planning to integrate strategic, operational, financial, architectural, and regulatory considerations; ability to shape product and platform strategies and multi year roadmaps that balance run reliability with modernization and transformation.
Demonstrated ability to be meticulous in follow up, showing execution rigor through clear milestones, RAID management, and operational readiness practices.

Ability to interact, collaborate, and develop consensus with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including business, IT, cybersecurity, corporate security, architecture, data, applications, OT, and strategic vendors.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including influencing without authority, executive storytelling, and negotiation.
Willingness to challenge the norm and act as a change leader through digital transformation, process modernization, and responsible AI adoption.
Ability to work with senior business partners to develop creative solutions using systems thinking, data driven decision making, and risk based tradeoffs.
Ability to work in and foster a team environment, including cross functional product teams and value streams.

QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree in information technology, engineering, business administration or computer science from a four-year university or college with seven to nine years of related experience including 4 years of Management Experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.

Relevant experience includes technology account management/business relationship management, product and portfolio management, and delivery leadership across cloud/SaaS, data/analytics, integration, cybersecurity, and OT/IT environments within an energy company or similarly regulated industry.

Preferred experience: includes professional work in business or information technology with demonstrated success partnering with senior business leaders in a regulated environment, IT leadership, cybersecurity/GRC, PPMO, client and data center services, IT architects, application teams, and managing third party/SaaS ecosystems.
Working experience with Artificial Intelligence tools and practices is desired.

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY
Ensures analysis activities incorporate input and guiding principles from IT architecture, the IT operating model, business and enterprise strategy, cybersecurity, and data governance. Engages with business partners based on their needs rather than IT processes, framing solution options using risk based tradeoffs across cost, resilience, compliance, and time to value.

DECISION MAKING
Schedules and leads business area meetings, including roadmap and portfolio reviews and governance forums. Develops process maps and designs (such as value stream maps, customer journeys, and operational workflows) to identify digitization and automation opportunities. Acts as an advocate for the assigned business area within IT, ensuring priorities are understood, dependencies are managed, and solutions align with enterprise standards.

SCOPE AND IMPACT
Acts as the primary mechanism for bringing each business segments key issues, drivers, and goals to the IT organization, translating them into actionable roadmaps and measurable outcomes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit up to 2/3 of the time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
